Employment & Vacation
Do you get paid vacation and paid time off from your job? I do not to either. I have been here for 7 years and don't get paid time off or paid vacation. Hence I haven't been on a vacation since honeymoon and I had to use some of that money to pay for my time off.
Re: Employment & Vacation
That doesn't seem reasonable. No PTO or Vacation after 7 years. Your full time right?
When I was working we got a weeks pad vacation for ever years we worked, up to 4 weeks. We also got 6 personal/sick days on top of that.
Wow, that does sound unreasonable.
I work full time and accrue vacation based on how many hours I work. It usually turns out to be around 2 weeks of vacation per year, plus two floating holidays. We also get 5 paid sick days per year and 3 personal days. Using the personal days can be kind of tricky sometimes, though.
Definitely paid time off at my job.
Does your boss ever take days off? What a weird policy. I would hate working someplace where I didnt get paid time off. I've never had a full time job not offer time off.
OMG that sounds awful. Time for a new job!
Yes, it's time for a new job. I feel like I've read that you're afraid of your boss too. That is a terrible working relationship/environment IMO.
Hmmm...maybe he should check company policy

Unless this is only for people strictly employed by HQ. Are branch offices franchises?
This is strictly for company employees, not agents offices.
Thank you. I have a degree in marketing but don't know where to look. Taking time off for a day off for interviews, etc. is almost a deteriment to me do due losing work time. and then if i get another job and give two weeks, will i be fire right then or there or given the two weeks?
In the insurance field, I think it's pretty standard when you give your two weeks to be asked to leave on the spot. At least from what I've heard from my friend. So if and when that time comes, have your stuff ready (files copied, contacts, etc. anything you want to take with you from your desk or computer).
It's not a firing if you are the one choosing to part ways, so don't think of it that way. It's not at all.
Well, if you get an interview somewhere, you can always make excuses to your boss about why you need an hour or two off -- doctor's appointment, dentist, veterinary appointment, etc.
And if you get fired for giving two weeks notice, well, at least you have another job lined up so who cares? Maybe you'd be able to start the new job sooner.
And you shouldn't be afraid to look for a new job if you're unhappy with your current position. I think MLive is a good place to start for job postings.
My job's like this. Something about not being able to sign-off on workpapers after you turn in your notice. In my office they let you stay the day, have you some time to bring another person up to date on work-in progress, order a cake, and pay you out your 2 weeks notice.
Definetly take home copies of what you want to keep the day before you turn in your notice.
And ditto Kerco, it's so not the same as getting fired.
I meant giving the 2 weeks notice as instead of the 2 weeks, him letting me go right on the spot. But I dunno. I have to find another job first. I interviewered somewhere else last year but didn't get in. Another agent is hiring but that would be more of a hE!! that I don't want to deal with. Ugh sorry that this is so depressing.... blah
