Clicky Poll #2: get a kitten now? or wait? or never?
I really want a kitten. Have been asking DH for one for months. There are two things keeping me from running out the the shelter & just adopting one.
#1 - our current cat. Not sure how he's gonna react. He's a total momma's boy, and can be territorial. That's why I'm going with a kitten. I figure less of a threat. Although I'm a little concerned about the first time we leave them together alone.
#2 - DD's age. She's 19 months. Loves our current cat, who is semi-tolerant of her. Even though she wouldn't be unsupervised with it, I'm a little concerned about her being a little to rough with a little kitten.
I am thinking I should hurry up & get one though, so that if we (hopefully) do get to move soon, our current cat isn't adjusting to a new kitten & a new house at the same time.
WDYT?[Poll]
Re: Clicky Poll #2: get a kitten now? or wait? or never?
I'm a sucker for cats; which is probably why we ended up with 4!
I would get one. Why not? You only live once
We ended up with our last cat because DH went to Petsmart to get food. He fell in love with it, and when he saw someone else ask about it - he grabbed the employee and said he was adopting it. We've adopted a few cats from the shelter that has animals at Petsmart. Again, we're just suckers!
Current cat scratched DD once, about a year ago. We put the claw-cover-thingies on him once, and he's never done it again. He's swatted at her, but never again with his claws out.
I love cats. We have two of them. Speaking from experience, we had a difficult time assimilating a kitten into a home with an adult cat. The kitten was just too playful for our five year old. I'm not telling you not to do it, but you need a strategy. We kept our cats apart for about a week and we gradually introduced them to each other.
I would put a sock on my hand then use that hand to pet one cat, take off the sock and give it to the other cat. It was a non-threatening way to get her used to the other cat's smell. The last thing you want is a territorial cat pissing all over your house.
This is us--we have 4 kitties also.
