Headed to NC for the summer

Hi Ladies!  My DH will be working at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville for the summer.  We should be there around Memorial Day and we will head back to Iowa in September.  He's an Army Reservist who is being mobilized for 90 days.  We are so thankful that we all get to come with him this time.

I'm a SAHM to 2 little girls.  We have never been to NC or really anywhere in the South so I am excited to explore the area.  I've already been researching to see just how far things are from Fayetteville. I am so happy there are a lot of nice place to see so close.  Not to mention the beach!

I'm going to start lurking here and will hopefully have something to add soon!

Re: Headed to NC for the summer

  • Welcome to NC!  I'm not too knowledgeable of what there is to do in Fayetteville, but can give you some info on other areas of the state.

"The Triangle" (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill) is within 1-2 hours depending on what you want to see and exactly which city you're going to.

     Here are some highlights:

Raleigh Museums (not a full list)

    www.ncartmuseum.org

    naturalsciences.org

    www.playspacemuseum.com

    www.marbleskidsmuseum.org

    ncmuseumofhistory.org/

    Planitarium in Chapel Hill:

Imax (at the kids museum) in Raleigh -

    www.imaxraleigh.org

Durham Bulls (minor league baseball in Durham)

    www.durhambulls.com/

Wilmington (there's a historical downtown and then several beaches nearby - Wilmington is not the same as the outer banks)-

    Battleship NC - www.battleshipnc.com

    http://www.nchistoricsites.org/fisher/fisher.htm

Outer Banks - beach area, made up of barrier islands

    http://www.outerbanks.org/

You can also go to the mountains (Asheville is nice, it has the Biltmore House and a funky downtown area, there's also Boone, Blowing Rock and other mountain towns).

  • I do not know much about Fayetteville, but I hope you enjoy your stay in NC. Beaufort is a cute little town and the beach at Atlantic Beach is nice if you do not want to head all the way to the Outer Banks.
