I would make a dent in my student loans!

Or use it as a down payment for a new car.

I'd save it (I'm boring!) but we'd probably use it for home improvements.

  • Every time I hear a story about someone coming into money I think about what I could do. With $10,000 I would probably pay off our remaining car loan, Perkins loan from school, save some of it, and help finance the new car we're trying to buy.

  • It wouldn't make much of a dent in the mortgage, and the cars are paid off, so we may as well spend some of it doing something fun like a trip!  The rest would probably go into home improvements (our furnace will likely not last another winter).

I'd put it toward house renovations

  • I would save most of it like 9,000.  The part I didn't save I would use on a family vacation.

  • Pay off DH's car and save the rest.

  • If I had MY way, we'd be off to the Caribbean for as long as $10k would allow. If it were up to DH, I;d be putting it toward my student loans.

  • What I SHOULD do: pay off the last of my credit card, put the rest towards a down payment on a house.

What I would WANT to do: go on an amazing vacation to Europe.

  • I asked this question over a year ago. What we did with out $10,000 was pay off all our small debts. Paid off DH's car and all student loans. So our only debt left was our mortgage. The rest went into our emergency savings. Then about six months later we were able to buy a bigger house! It wouldn't have gone very far if we had just put it into a house, but really made a difference eliminating our debt. And with such good credit at that point in part from paying off the debts, we were ablt to get the lowest interest rate available.
  • I would want to pay down some of our debt.  Knowing us, we would definitely use some to go on a vacation.

  • Pay off bills...boring but it was make my life a little less stressful!

  • Probably do home renovations.. or take a trip..

  • Finish some home projects and maybe put it towards a vacation if I could pull DH away from work. Otherwise save the rest if vacation couldn't happen.

  • Pay off my car and use the rest to put towards a down payment on a house.
  • i'd throw a few thousand into savings, a few thousand into home improvements, 4 or 5 into a european vacation, and the rest to updating my wardrobe and a digital slr camera.

  • We would dig up our driveway and completely redo it. It's something we plan on doing this summer, along with getting a metal roof on our house. We have a pretty large driveway and haven't gotten a quote, but we figure it would be about 10k.
  • I would pay off my car and some of my student loans.

  • Get the rest of the windows for the house done.  Build a new front porch.

  • Should do: throw it on the car loan.

Would do: make sure we have enough money to pay off remaining wedding stuff and have a kick ass honeymoon!
