I found out this morning that one of the women on my sales staff just didn't show up on Saturday. She left early on Friday (with permission) to go to a sports game, but she just didn't appear on Saturday. There's only two people scheduled to work on weekends so my other employee was alone all day. Apparently missing girl texted to tell the other employee that she was running late and might call out . . . but she never called me, my manager, or the owner.
She was on probation and doing really well, but I don't know what's going to happen now. I want to fire her, but we'd be so short handed.
Sometimes I'm sad about leaving but then sh*t like this happens and I remember I can't save them from themselves. I feel like I'm trying to cram as much common sense down their throats as humanly possible before I leave but it's just not working.
Re: WTF work
I think it is what it is... I'd confront her and see why she didn't go through the proper procedure for calling out and what she thinks your company should do in this case?
(BTW-I took off today... personal day, but I did the proper procedures, too.)
I'm sorry I'm not much help here, but if you need her there... is there something else that she can do? Get the crappy hours? Work someone else's Sat shift?
She's not in on Mondays (she works Tuesday - Saturday) so we'll see what happens tomorrow. I'm a weird kind of manager (did I mention I got the owner named me sales manager when she edited my resume). I run the store and their projects in the store, but my manager handles payroll, vacation days, sick days. So it's more his decision on what should be done. I have a meeting with him at 1. We'll see.
I'm all for personal days, if they're taken responsibly. I wanted to take one today for my back today but I had too much to do. It just bugs me that she takes sick days willy-nilly and we have to deal with the fall out. She seems to be out at least once a month, if not more. Either she's abusing the system or she needs to start taking vitamens.
Not cool on her part.
I took the day today too, but I wanted to go to the doctor b/c I was having back pain and wanted it checked out. I don't miss work unless I don't think I can do my job safely (i.e. I have a fever or contagious illness or I've got an injury that would prevent me from helping my patients/co-workers in a way that I need to.)
I just don't understand people who just don't show up or call or whatever.
This. We do not accept No Call No Show. You can kiss your job goodbye at our place of business!
Yep. Same girl. She's been doing better too. We put her on probation after her review and her raise was pending an improvement. We were supposed to meet with her this week and give her the raise, but now I'm pissed.
The best thing is she didn't even text me or the manager or the owner, she only texted my coworker in the store who had no authority.
She's consistent for long stretches of the time and then she screws up royally. Seriously, GROW UP. She's nearly 30 and she's still pulling crap like this?
