What to wear... in Vegas?

DH and I are going to Vegas this weekend for the first time, and I have no idea what to wear.  I'm used to Austin where I can throw on a cotton dress and either flip flops or cowboy boots. I'm guessing that Vegas is a little more formal.  Do I need to wear heels every night (please say no)?  Are my cotton dresses ok, or do I need to get something a little more flashy?  what do you usually wear?

Re: What to wear... in Vegas?

  • you're going to see it all - from super casual to what-the-eff-were-you-thinking kind of clothing.

more importantly though - what do you plan on doing?

  • we're seeing KA on Friday night, but other than that, I imagine just hitting up various casinos and walking up and down the strip.  I want to play bingo somewhere too.  doubtful that we'd do any dancing/night clubs.

  • We LOOOOVED KA!  DH raved about it and he's sooo not a cirque kind of guy.

I wore cute sleeveless cocktail dresses and heels for most evening stuff.  Did a lot of walking though and by the end of the trip, I was wearing flats or flip flops everywhere because my feet were dying.  I thought dresses were good though because it was pretty warm outside when we went (Labor Day weekend) and I could dress them up/down.

  • I'd wear jeans/nicer top to go to KA, but I think you'd be fine wearing just about anything if you're going to walk around.  if you are going to a nicer dinner, bring heels, but you can probably get away with whatever comfy for anything else.  like I said, you're going to see it all!

keep in mind - they keep the casinos around -40 degrees, so if you get cold like me, bring layers!  even if it's 110 outside. :/

    have fun!

  • I agree, if no clubs at night, you will be fine wearing things a bit more casual.  Some people really dress up for the Cirq shows...I mean formal wear, but there will many others wearing jeans.   You can pretty much get away with anything.  For some of the nice restaurants, they do require 'business casual' attire.  If you do go to a nice dinner, I would recommend Circo at Bellagio.  It was such good food and had a great view of the fountain!
  • p.s. if you do want to go to a nicer dinner, check out restaurant.com - I haven't been a fan when we've used it for austin restaurants, but there's a good selection for LV.  if you watch top chef, there are a bunch of coupons for restaurants from famous chefs - fleur de lys, RM seafood, etc.
