photographers or hobbyists-Photoshop classes?

I am not a photographer, but I enjoy photography and would like to better learn Photoshop.  Are you self taught?  Did you take classes?  What resources did you use?  Any recommendations?  I know the very basics, but want to learn more!  While I'm at it, I would be interested on any feedback on more advanced photography courses (beyond how to use the camera, etc.) as well.  Thanks!

Re: photographers or hobbyists-Photoshop classes?

  • I'm self and internet taught, but I do have Scott Kelby's book for Lightroom (though I've hardly read it), because everybody says he's the best. He does have an accessible writing style and gives step-by-step with sample pics you can download and follow along on. Don't know about any classes, sorry.
  • I believe UT has some informal classes in Photoshop. You could always take a Continuing Ed class at ACC as well.

There are a few good web resources, like Lynda.com, that go over how to do things.

I took one short class in it, and then picked up a lot from googling tutorials on whatever I needed to do for an image. You will find that there are 20+ ways to do any task in Photoshop and none of them are wrong.

I also taught a college level photoshop class, and I learned a bazillion other ways to do things, due to going over the text.  It was called "How to learn Photoshop in 24 hours." It broke everything into 24 lessons that were pretty short and easy.

  • Thanks ladies!
  • I was just on the Precision Camera website earlier today and I saw that they offer a Photoshop class.  Maybe you could call and see what exactly it covers.  Also, I posted about a photo expo going on this weekend.  Maybe they'll have some seminars on photo editing there as well.  Couldn't hurt to check it out.  Especially since it's free.
