No show update

Apparently she texted my manager to say she was going to be out and the text didn't go through. Of course we can't prove this, but WTF. WHO TEXTS TO SAY THEY'RE NOT COMING IN?! We text to say we're running late all the time, but that just reeks of immaturity to me.

She's not getting fired, she's getting her raise. My manager is too afraid of being short handed to do anything. He said, "I don't know why I'm so lenient with her" and I said, "ME NEITHER."

She's here now and she just asked me a stupid question and I was mean and told her she needed to start thinking things through herself because I won't be here in three weeks to think for her.

She's hiding in the store now.

BL does.  She does it all.the.time. when she's not gonna be in, or late.  And she texts ME, not even HER boss, she texts ME for ME to tell HER boss (he's OUR boss, but still).  I have NO authority over her, but whatevs.  She even requested that I text her when I'll be out, or late, etc.  because "It's easier".  Oooookay, I never knew it being very professional to text your boss to say "Hey I'm not gonna be in today", but whatevs, saves me from having to listen to her whine when/if I do need to be out.

  • For real, Sheri?! That's insane. Yes, if your boss says to text than go ahead and do it. J's company has a "sick hotline" that's a voicemail for people to call in but he's actually supposed to e-mail when he's going to be sick.

I can't believe that lady is YOUR boss. I would stage a coup.

  • I'd have her prove that she text (on her phone). That just stinks-but yah that you're only 3 weeks more to go!

I can't do that (texting thing) cause my BL doesn't get all of my texts. She's more into the emails, but I wouldn't email her to call out sick, either.

  • Shyea.  You would think we were each others bosses seeing as if she wants to take a vac-day she asks me if it's okay with me, or anything else for that matter.  We are the only 2 women in the whole company (in this building there's only 19 people, most of them work downstairs), I think the men are afraid to deal with us, well I shouldn't really say afraid, but, they either don't want to, or just don't know how to.  Most of the are married, and I've noticed their wives wear the pants.  Like the Office Manager (one of the Pres. sons), he's actually BL's boss (and mine, above her), he always tells us to check with the other first...so I think we've just done it out of habit.  If we biitch about something around here, it gets done pronto, we don't like someones attitude, they get talked to right away.  They don't know how to deal with women in the work place, because there's never been more than 2 here (me and BL are the 2 who've lasted the longest in the company's history) so they just kinda do/listen to whatever we say.  Not that I'm saying either of us complains really, or anything of the sort, but, I'm just speaking in general.  Aside from BL's attitude towards me sometimes, and the office azzhole, I have nothing to complain about here.  Now the office azzhole, he's a whole other story.
  • That's crazy!  I can't believe the thing about texting for work-related things...that just seems odd to me.  Her behavior sounds so immature.  It drives.me.bat.sh!t.crazy when managers don't do ANYTHING about crap workers (there's a case of that going on in my dept now).  It's so infuriating.  3 more weeks and you're out of there, 3 more weeks!

  • Oh wow, so she texts out of work and then gets  raise! That makes a whole lotta sense. Good thing you won't be around soon to deal with all this hot mess!
  • Putting on my "Employment Law Firm HR Hat" - your company is setting itself up for a lawsuit...either with her or another employee.  If you are not this lenient in the future or with another employee, you risk discrimination or wrongful termination suits.  Don't set lenient precedents!

I would write up a policy and distribute it ASAP.

Aria, I told my manager if I was the boss boss (he handles all HR stuff since we're tiny), she'd be out on her azz or at least have a formal reprimand. He's all, "Well, I didn't say they couldn't text . . ."

I'm sorry, you need to tell not to be irresponsible freak shows?

  • I can't believe with all the people out there looking for jobs that she couldn't be replaced with someone who actually wants to work. That is crazy.

    This.

I text the other therapist if I'm running late in the morning so she knows that I'm on my way.

If I'm not coming in- I call her and speak to her or leave her a voicemail.  I want some kind of record that she was informed.  And I always do it as soon as I know I won't be there either on time or at all.
