I have to brag on my H. He's a big book collector and the two bookcases we have weren't cutting it, so he decided to build one. He finished sealing it on Saturday and it came out beautifully! I'm just really proud of the work he put into it and that its a piece that will last us a long time and we'll always know he made it.
Haven't loaded it up yet...thats just part of his Bible collection. It's BIG:

I wasn't sure I'd love it, because I have a more mod style and pretty much no natural wood furniture, but it's gorgeous.

We also adopted a kitty yesterday! We've talked about it forever and decided to go to the shelter just to see who was there. We'd planned on getting a boy, but totally fell in love with this little girl's big blue eyes and sweetness. She came right to the edge of the kennel when it was opened and rubbed up on our hands. She's totally made herself at home and has yet to tired of getting loved on.
She's 4 and her previous mommy is an older lady who has gotten sick and become wheelchair bound, so she had to turn her over. The lady at the shelter said she was devastated and calls all of the time to check on her, and that she'd let her know today that she was adopted. I told her to give her our phone number and we'll gladly keep her updated on how she's doing, send pictures, etc. She must have been a good mom to have raised a kitty with such a great temperament.

Her name was Gayla, but we're calling her Maire. Its Irish and regionally pronounced either moy-ra or moy-a, but we say moy-a. She and big sister, Keller, get along great! Keller wishes Maire had more interest in playing with her. She follows her around, keeping a respectful distance and likes to come up and lick her when I'm petting her. Maire lets her know when she doesn't want her around by batting at her, but hasn't clawed yet.
A pic of Keller, so she's not left out:
Re: AW: DH Brag & New "Baby"
wow, very impressive bookshelf. love it!
and gorgeous kitty! I am sure it's going to make the previous owner so very happy she's found a good home!I am impressed with your DH's handiness, but what I'm really jealous of is that cat and your photography skills! What a pretty kitty! And you captured your dog's expression so well. I'm impressed!
Love the bookshelf! So pretty!!
I am trying to talk my DH into a kitten...I will have to show him your precious baby!
Pretty bookshelf. I "wood" (harhar) love to have one like that instead of our particleboard one from my DH's college days!
Lovely, lovely cat too. I really like the part about the lady calling and checking on it. That would make my heart hurt if you guys hadn't adopted her, but that's so cool that you're going to give her updates. Good stuff!
Amazing bookshelf!
KUDOS to you and your husband for picking out a kitty that has a few years on her! It's all too easy for the babies to get adopted out, but the poor grown up kitties tend to get left behind. I'm sure her previous owner's heart is warmed by the fact that her little girl has a wonderful new forever home to call her own. Congratulations!!!
