I'm eating wasabi cashews. I thought I was eating them slowly enough. Nope. Just got the wasabi burn up into my nostrils. Holy crap. My eyes are now watering.
That is all.
Re: Wasabi!
What is wasabi?
(Sorry if that's a really dumb question. I've seen it in the description of menu items before, but I don't know what it actually is.)
From Wikipedia:
Wasabi (???(??)?, originally ???; Wasabia japonica, Cochlearia wasabi, or Eutrema japonica) is a member of the Brassicaceae family, which includes cabbages, horseradish, and mustard. Known as "Japanese horseradish", its root is used as a spice and has an extremely strong flavor. Its hotness is more akin to that of a hot mustard rather than the capsaicin in a chili pepper, producing vapors that stimulate the nasal passages more than the tongue.
Fresh leaves of wasabi can also be eaten and have some of the hot flavor of wasabi roots.
The burning sensations it can induce are short-lived compared to the effects of chili peppers, especially when water is used to remove the spicy flavor. The sensation is felt primarily in the nasal passage and can be quite painful, though it generally only lasts a few seconds.
Wasabi is often served with sushi or sashimi, usually accompanied with soy sauce. The two are sometimes mixed to form a single dipping sauce known as Wasabi-joyu. Legumes (peanuts, soybeans, or peas) may be roasted or fried, then coated with a wasabi-like mixture and eaten as a snack.
What the freak is this from? I have the tune in my head but I can't place it.
And I have a masochistic love of wasabi as well.
LOL...its BNL.
Ahhhhhhhhh yes, THANK you.
I haven't heard that song in YEARS.

Ok THIS is enough to make me want to try them again lol.
The first time I met Jason Mraz (swoon) he offered us some of his snack, which turned out to be wasabi peas. I nearly choked, and tried REALLY hard not to spit it out at him lol.
