Any insight?
I was on birth control from around age 15-22. For the last few years I took necon .5/35, it's fairly low dose & I took it continuously. It helped tremendously with my migraines (taking it that way), and when I do have a period, I usually develop large cysts that rupture.
I then, quit bcp so that we could TTC. After about a year with only a couple periods and no ovulation, I was given clomid (at this time I was undiagnosed as PCOS).
Post Partum, I tried nuvaring..but It made my hormones crazy, and I literally wanted to murder people. So, I went back on my normal pill, which I had taken prior to Peyton, with no problems. So, i'm about 4 months in and the last 2 months I've bled for about 3 weeks out of the month. One dr. told me to do nothing, another wanted to see me, and while I was out of town my old gyno wanted me to stop taking the pills for 4 days, shed a lining and start over.
That was all fine & dandy except I developed a cyst that ruptured 3 weeks ago and it hurt like hell.
So, I got back home, saw my regular gyno (because my MW couldn't get me in for an ultrasound for about 3 weeks..) and they did one in the office. No fibroids, or current small cysts from PCOS, because i'm on the bc. My lining was also thin thin thin.
So, why am I bleeding?! I don't get it. It's bright red, period like. With or without cramping sometimes.
I saw an endocrinologist about my PCOS, because I have insulin resistance/pre-diabetes because of it, and she wants me off of hormonal bc. Which, is even more confusing, because I thought that was the main way to treat PCOS. My gyno is calling me on Monday to discuss that, after speaking with the endo.
They wanted me to switch to ovcon 1/50, but the last time I took anything close to that strength, I had constant migraines.
Now i'm blabbering on, but has anyone had this issue post partum, but not before? Or, just all of a sudden when your bcp worked great prior?
Thanks, sorry so long!
Re: RP. BCP Vent-Always bleeding (longish)
All I can tell you is the BC doesn't treat PCOS. It masks the symptoms. Keeps me from growing a mustache and keeps my periods regular so I don't get paranoid and POAS every month. But it doesn't treat the insulin resistance.
Thank you! I'm supposed to be taking metformin for my IR but I could not tolerate it, at all. The endo I just saw said that my a1c was better, so it was up to me if I wanted to try another brand of metformin. I'm waiting on some other labwork before I make that decision. I lived over a week of my life in the bathroom before I said, forget this. If the only thing the bcp is doing is controlling my unwanted hair growth, which isn't extreme anyway, and is there a little bit even with it, then I may give it up for a little while & see. (holy run on sentence!)
