I know how creative you ladies are, so would you help me come up with ideas for a little boy's first birthday party? It's for my BFF's little boy and she's not the most creative person, so I've agreed to help her. She's already decided that the party will be choo choo train themed with bright red and turquoise colors. I've been searching the internet for decoration and food ideas but a lot of stuff seems to be Thomas the Tank Engine themed, and not so much "baby" train themed. I've offered to make the party invitations for her (nothing wrong with some shameless self-promotion, right?) and some cute banners out of red and turquoise paper, similar to this:

Here are the invites I'm making her (info removed to protect the innocent):
They will be red and turquoise- for some reason when I uploaded this to Flickr it came out a weird mint green color on my monitor, don't know why. They will be in turquoise envelopes with red and turquoise striped envelope liners. Does anyone have any ideas for other decorations, favors, food??
**EDIT** I corrected the color in the invites. NOW it is red and turquoise!
Re: Your ideas needed please... 1st birthday party
If it is mostly adults, I would at most put together little gift bags for the kids in attendance. Maybe you could include some train whistles and train lollipops? Oriental trading had a few other non-Thomas train items, too.
I love that style of sign...other than a train-shaped cake and maybe a little train conductor's hat for the birthday boy I'm out of ideas. If you could figure out how to make a little train like this for a table centerpiece in the red and turquoise it would also be cute.

Thanks ladies! Munkii, I especially loved the third link you posted- in the same colors too! I think we're having another friend make the cake (she's gotten into cake decorating) and I believe it's going to look something like this (but in red and blue):
7:52 am and I don't have any good ideas... this is going to be a long day.
My whining aside, you have some great ideas and the invites are SO CUTE! I'm sure you'll do a great job!
MY BLOG!
Train cookies! Love it! I want some!
MY BLOG!
Munkii- my friend is getting a certain photog known around these parts to shoot the party...
and to everyone else, good call on the favors! Not being a parent myself, I wouldn't have thought twice about handing out candy. I somehow doubt she will be up for making cookies though... she made a comment to me about how she wouldn't even be throwing a party if it weren't "expected"
Maybe if I feel up to it I'll make some train cookies.
