why must my husband play soccer??

so we had this wonderful trip to Maui planned for next week.  secretly, i really wanted to go there for our honeymoon but couldn't justify having a 3 week period of time and spending the whole time on the beach.  soo, its our 2 year anniversary and last weekend my husband tears his MCL and gets a 5mm impaction fracture (i.e. - bone crush) on his tibia during his soccer game.

not only do we have to postpone this trip but we were also planning on transforming into super athlete couple and start doing races together.  nope.  all gone.  he's on crutches and super miserable about having to be sedentary for the next 2 months.

on a positive note, my bangs finally grew out from that monstrous hair debacle.  Party!!!

Re: why must my husband play soccer??

  • ummmmmm. I feel ya.  Soccer is king in our house.

My DH currently has a black eye allllll the way around the entire eye - and broken blood vessels in his eye whites so it looks like he's a druggie that got in a fight.  He also came home with a swollen knee and a limp from the same game.

He walks in the door from the soccer game and I see his broken self...

Me: "oh my god... what happened????"

    Him:  "This game was awwwwwesome"

DH plays at least 4 times a week.  And although I'm glad he loves a sport so much... it's a lot.  Does you DH do indoor our outdoor?  It seems to me like they get injured so much more during indoor... but I'm curious to how in the world that injury happend to your DH???

I'm so sorry you have to cancel your amazing trip!  And hooray for the bang debacle to be history!  Hopefully your tickets are transferable and you guys can go to Maui as soon as he's back on his feet (and before he plays again!!!) Wink

  • That TOTALLY sucks about the trip!!  How long will you guys have to postpone it?

You can still turn into super athlete couple!!  Just not this season.. or maybe the end of the season.  Tri season goes until October or so, and long distance running season starts really soon after that.  Maybe that'll give him a goal to look forward to?

    Hooray for bangs growing out!!

Oh no, that sucks. I am sorry that you have to postpone your trip.

MH loves soccer, too. He plays pick up games on the fields at Patton Elementary and is currently looking for a team to play on, too. There go my weekends... But I am happy that he is active, so I shouldn't complain too much.

We both are looking forward to the soccer worldcup that starts in June. Are any of you watching, too?

  • oh no, that definitely stinks!

MH tore his ACL a few years before we met; he was playing basketball about a month before our wedding and fell on his knee.  he freaked out, thinking he had done something again - turns out, he "just" bruised his bone, or something like that.  I was picturing him limping down the aisle on crutches.  :/

  • That stinks!  Do you have trip insurance?

DH played soccer in college so I know all too well the stupid injuries you can get and I won't go in to how many trips to the hospital he had from it.  Fortunately he's been over playing for a few years but I think he wants to get back into it. Tongue Tied

i read this part and i was thinking...how weird would that be if our DHs injured each other!  it happened during a weekend game at Onion Creek park.  the ball got to the other player and they both went for it really hard and heard a pop when they collided.  turns out it was my DH's leg.  gross.

he plays indoor also but it seems like he's always getting injured in the outdoor games.  maybe his outdoor league is more aggressive than his indoor.

I will definitely be watching the world cup.  i feel like i've made a little progress though..at least he watches the bachelor and some of my cheesy chick shows with me now.  4 years ago that would have been out of the question.

AND...i'm going to be super athlete anyway.   i'll have a better time than him in the two months he's out...muhahaha (evil laugh)

  • Wow.  Didn't your DH injure himself playing soccer last year?  Sorry about your trip.  That stinks that you guys can't go.

If you wnat to try and get fit do you want to start running again?  We could always meet at Old Settler's park again.  Now that I'm not pg anymore I need to get back in shape.
