Vacuum recs?

Ours died, so now instead of shopping for a new vac for myself, we're shopping for two. Any recommendations? As much as I'd love a Dyson, I'm thinking the $100-150ish range is what we're restricted to if we have to buy dos vacuums :( TIA

Re: Vacuum recs?

  • I'm a huge Dyson fan, so I don't really have any other recs.  Although I do know you can get a refurbished Dyson for cheaper.  That might be worth looking into.
  • Consumer Reports just reviewed vacuums in the last few months. We wound up buying a $60 Dirt Devil that was one of their Best Buys. It's definitely no-frills and it's fairly loud, but it does a really good job of sucking up dirt.
  • We have a Bissell Pet Hair Pro... OMG best freaking thing ever! We got ours from Target and it came with a $20 target gift card.... I think we paid $150 for it.
  • We just researched and bought a Eureka Comfort Clean Oh! (yeah...totally lame name!)  We wanted a bagless b/c of all of the pet hair, and this one got great reviews from our research, and was $130 at Lowes.  So far, so good!

We have another Eureka (bagged) that we use for upstairs.  LOVE that, and it's still at the top of reviews and we've had it for ~3 years.  It still works great, but we just seem to fill up the bags too fast.  I think that one is a SmartVac.

I always wanted a Dyson, but I swear they just don't seem to get good reviews, so we didn't want to spend $$$ if it'd crap out after a few years.  Although, friends who have one seem to love them...

  • We are on our second Kenmore vac, the first one lasted 12 years! We paid $150 for the one we have now.
