As much as I love dog, I HATE cats... I am not a cat person - at all! However, I am now the owner of a cat. Feel free to name her.
The reason I took this cat in is really sad and horrible, so if you don't want to hear the full, gory story (Shoe...) don't read the story below the picture.
This cat was a stray in my study partner's neighborhood. She would come try to cuddle up to us while we were studying outside. Then we noticed she was pregnant. Last Wednesday night, as I was leaving to go home, I noticed she was panting and she was contracting. I sat with her for a good 45 minutes to an hour. She got up and walked away at home point, so we figured she was going hide to have the kitties. The next morning when I got back, I saw the cat walking out of the bushes and she had something hanging out her back end. When she walked up to me, I noticed it was the tail of a kitty. For the next few hours, we tried to comfort her and help her along with the delivery. When it looked as if she was miserable and in so much pain, we called some vet friends who advised that we should try to help her by pulling the kitty. I pulled gently for at least 3 hours on and off. I got the kitty out all the way except for one arm and the head. Poor mama was in so much pain. I walked inside to let her rest. When I came back out, she was gone. Looking back, I should never have left her side.
Later that night, I started feeling very guilty and just plain horrible. We got flashlights and looked for her. She came crawling out of bushes, still with kitty stuck in the birth canal, and she could barely walk. I was able to easily remove the kitten (which did not make it) and we took her to LSU Vet School. They did x-rays and hooked her up to an IV. She had 104.5 fever (normal for cats is 100-102). The xray showed that as a kitten, she fractured her pelvis. The way it healed, she wasn't able to deliver any kittens. The Vet was surprised she was even able to pass the first kitten, although not successfully. It also showed that she had a BB inside of her. The ultrasound showed that she had 3 kittens left, only 2 were alive. They wanted $2,000 to do a c-section, which I just do not have. We asked them to make sure she made it through the night and we would take her to a vet in the morning who would do the surgery for under $200. Throughout the night, her temperature rose to 106. But, she's a fighter and with the fluids and antibiodics, she made it through the night. The c-section was successful, however none of the kittens made it. I'm assuming they basically cooked with her temperature rising so high.
Cat is doing GREAT and is now an inside cat at my apartment. She is living the life now. She was spayed, so she will never go through that again. I felt SO bad for poor kitty. I almost felt slightly responsible because I left and I didn't take her to the vet immediately. However, she's doing fine and I now have a cat.
The end.

You are such a sweetheart. Good for you for helping her. I'm not a cat person either but I couldn't have left her homeless either.
Umm for a girl I like Emma. I've always liked people names for animals.
I'm so with the Cosette!
