Acupuncture

Hey ladies,

My DH has been having some inner ear issues for ~6 months. He has had all of the traditional tests, saw an ENT, etc., and they just keep telling him that time will make it go away. Needless to say, that is BS in my book! So he is trying acupuncture today. Anyone have experience with it? He doesn't know what to expect in terms of an outcome, but he is so fed up with traditional medicine not doing a thing!

Re: Acupuncture

  • I have had acupuncture for migraines.  It got expensive because our health insurance doesn't cover any of it.  My friend swears by it for her migraines, but I didn't stick with it long enough.  I do think it works though.  And I believe my friend took her son to a chiropractor for ear issues, you may want to look into that as well (perhaps google it).

Hmm, interesting. DH did see a chiro for quite a while, but then stopped bc he felt better. Thanks for the tip!

  • I should mention, a good way to think of it is, alternative medicines are more gradual.  It is like taking a multivitamin or zinc for a cold - the results aren't instant, but have a cumulative effects over time.  You may get some instant results but best results are seen with multiple treatments.
  • True. Poor DH is so fed up with feeling bad, that  I hope he will keep up treatments. Unfortunately, he is a pill popper so I I will need to stay on him lol!

I've had acupuncture a few times and I love it. As with any treatment, much can depend on the practitioner. I've used it twice for pre and post surgical relaxation and while I can't tell if my outcomes were directly linked to the acupuncture I think they were successful.

  • I had acupuncture done and loved it. I went to a free clinic they had at my college. It was real basic, only acupuncture of the ear which has many pressure points which are connected to different parts of your body. She hit one pressure point that pertained to my chest and lungs. I have asthma and when that needle went in I could feel myself breathing better...I have never breathed so well in my life. My roommate...who was a drinker...actually had pain with her acupuncture because they did a point connected to her liver....she couldn't handle it and needed the needle out.
