How can anyone think this dance was appropriate for 7 year olds???

Re: XP from MM

  • They look like mini burlesque dancers--so not appropriate for a 7 year old.  I once attended a dance recital (for the little girl I nannied for) and I was shocked that they had 9 year olds showing off their tummies--what's wrong with covering your body when you're not even out of elementary school?!?
  • I took dance classes from age 4 until I graduated from HS.  I don't think they would let the oldest girls at the studio dance like that, to that song.  And definitely not in those costumes!

  • The costumes don't bother me so much as I have seen many children in things like that for recitals and such.  The bumping and grinding and thrusting is what gets me.  When every single one of those girls is pregnant at 12 years old don't say that noone told you so.  Children aren't as naive as people like to make them out to be.  I'm sure they all said something along the lines of "oh they dont have any idea what thats about" which is BULLSHIT.
  • My DH gets SD going every time he sees her wiggling her butt.

    NO BUTT WIGGLING!

But Daaaaddddd, it's for a dance!  But this video was wrong!  Clearly wrong...

Now, off to get my SD a skimpy bikini... (just kidding! Although I am getting her one-just not 'skimpy' nor a bikini)

  • That's crazy!! What's sad is that these girls are actually talented dancers and there's no need for the trusting and "sexy" dancing parts. Their spins and leg lifts are fantastic.
  • Oh, God . . . Why? Why do we need to be sexualizing girls this young? Our society forces this crap on them from an early age and then calls them wh*res when they follow through with it in their teens and get knocked up. Why are people surprised? YOU SET THEM UP TO FAIL. Little girls are not equipped to handle the consequences.

Just no. For other, feminist reasons I have a major problem with girls feeling like they have to be sexy, especially this young. I understand that dancers wear outfits to show off their body purely to be able to see the movements but this is way too much. It does look like a burlesque dancer. And the dance is not appropriate for children.

I love dance and I plan to enroll in classes with my kid someday (until my child rejects me for being the world's worst dancer). This is something I'm going to keep a very close eye on.

I know, the worst part for me is that those little girls are amazingly talented.....and then they bent over and stuck their little a$$es in the air.  Some of the comments supporting them have been "Criticizers are imposing their adult views on the girls.  They don't know what they're doing."

Umm, have none of these adults watched porn or been to a strip club?  Perhaps if they knew what the bending over with the a$$ in the air is representing they wouldn't think it was so cute.
