Am I old or is this disturbing.....

My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!

Re: Am I old or is this disturbing.....

  • I saw this yesterday and IMO I think it is disgusting. Some of the moves are downright dirty and the costumes..just not appropriate. I understand it goes with the "meaning of the song". But can't we preserve the innocence of our children just a little bit longer? They could have done so many other dances to that song and wore just a little bit more. I know if that was my daughter and her dance team coach wanted to do that I would have said no way. Kids should be kids...not strippers.

This video is a pedophiles dream come true

  •  I agree with JKip. Some of those moves are downright disturbing.

But I also do not like the little girls in pagents with the make-up caked on. I have a 17 yr old daughter and I could never imagine her dressing like that at a young age-nor now.

  • I have danced since I was 3 and wore the same size costume when I was there age and even a bikni when I was 4 for a dance. When I was that young I never thought about it being wrong or gross to dance like that because to me it was just choreography. With that being said they could have changed a couple of moves, but other than that the girls are very talented.

  • Ooohhh my gosh!! This is completely disturbing to me. I would prob kill the dance teacher if this was my child on stage.

  • It is disturbing--I'm with JKip and Mel on this.

It's more disturbing to me that people in today's society think it's acceptable to sexualize young children.  For example, during the Super Bowl, eTrade had one of their stupid baby commercials, and in it, the main baby was "tapping that".  Sick.  In what world is that amusing or tolerable?  Maybe that's why it hasn't been aired since.

FWIW, I used to work in a dance studio and the girls NEVER dressed or danced like that--not even the teenagers.  Some instructors and parents do set boundaries.

    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • I took dance class for 10 years (age 3-13) and never did moves like that at their age. I did wear mid-riff baring costumes (the one I'm thinking of in particular had a little top like theirs with leggings), but was not shaking it like that!

When I got into middle school I changed instructors and was put into the high school dance group and did do moves like those, but I was developed in middle school so it didn't seem quite as creepy! Plus, I was dancing with the older girls, and competitively, so we had to be "up with the times."

Long story short, if my daughter were in that group I would have made a stink about those moves. The costume wouldn't be inappropriate if the moves weren't so inappropriate...I don't need to see my 7 year old shaking it like a video dancer - nor do the pedophiles who are, for sure, enjoying this clip! But, for the record (and nasty adult moves aside), those girls are VERY talented dancers! Some of the turns they were doing are very advanced, I was super impressed with their abilities.

  • DH showed me that last night. We're both rather appalled by some of the moves.  The costumes don't really bother us, the song is forgiveable, and they are truly good dances.  The choreography, though, is just plain not appropriate for their age.
  • These moves are completely inappropropriate for seven year olds.  I hate that dance studios do this.  It's not that unusual either.  Age appropriate moves are SO important.  These girls are very talented and they should be trained to use their talent sexually...

It honestly makes me angry and sad.

  • OOPS!

  • I'm glad it's not just me.  I could not help thinking that they ARE exceptionally talented...and it was all being lost in the inappropriateness of the song and the suggestive moves.  Does someones mother not say, "hey...hold up there!!!"  I would.

  • I completely agree with JKip.  Parts of the dance (all the booty shaking etc) could have been changed, and it they wore a different costume I probably wouldn't have thought twice about it.  But their costume REALLY bothers me.  I mean, these girls are wearing less than Beyonce did in the original video, and the red and black fishnet and tassels??  Totally reminds me of something from a burlesque show.  Not appropriate at all!  They're still babies!
