Lucky you! going to Peru. We went a few years ago, and loved it. We were coming from Venezuela-so the weather switch was interesting...are you going to MP? What other parts of Peru?
Re: ::Hawaiianbride08::
I'm excited!! Machu Picchu is certainly the main thing we are going to see. We'll stay the night before in Aguas Calientes. We'll also spend time in Arequipa and Cusco, and a little bit of time in Lima the first and last days. We were going to do Colca Canyon out of Arequipa, but the amount of traveling place to place was getting ridiculous for such a short trip (8 nights) that we decided instead to stay 3 nights in the city, and to look for a day excursion closer for one of the days - I'm hoping the guys (my hubby and a friend) agree to try sand boarding! We've decided to plan as we go as to what exactly we do aside from Machu Picchu in the cities, so it should be an adventure :-)
Any suggestions in those areas??
You have to go sand boarding...it was a blast. We went in Huacachina. The only bad part is getting all the sand out your clothes and shoes after! We stayed around Miraflores in Lima and just went into restaurants that we thought looked good. As far the mata de coca- they tell you to drink it-it didn't work for us! We were fine once we got to MP but had horrible alt. sickness in Cusco. Try to go do a Pisco tasting...although I hate Pisco sours, we had alot of fun on the tasting. Of course I love food-so we tried the ceviche, had a pachmanca with some random locals we met while we were stranded in Arequipa. DOn't know if it is stil lopen-but Sol de Mayo in Arequipa was a good restaurant. Another neat place to eat in Lima is Huaca Pucllana (its on a pyramid...) barranco neighborhood in Lima is trendy.
While you are in Lima, I highly suggest that you get yourself to a schnazzy restaurant called Astrid & Gaston....most likely you will need your hotel to call & make a reservation for you.
Enjoy MP, it is absolutely phenomenal.
BTW, make sure you have some type of anti-D meds w/ you...both DH & I ended up w/ the hershey squirts.
Yikes! I'll add that to our shopping list!! Definitely drinking bottled water only, and sticking to nicer looking restaurants to try to prevent it also!!
