I just got a STD for my 5 year reunion in September and really feel no desire to go. I actually can't because, well, I live 12 hours away and it's on a weekend that I don't have a long break.
Has anyone ever been to one? Do you feel that they're fun or just a way to rub it in classmates faces how "successful" your life is? I've never been one to gloat and was always pretty shy in HS, so even though I think I have a pretty darn good life, I don't feel the need to go and show off, you know?
Re: Thoughts on HS reunions
I definitely skipped my 5 year. It was an informal fb invite to meet at a trendy bar...yeah, no. I felt like 5 years was too soon to see any of those a-holes.
My 10 year is coming up sooner than I'd like, but I definitely plan on attending. There are some people I haven't seen since graduation that I really would like to catch up with. I'm also still close with some of my hs friends (like my BFF), and I'm sure we'll get tanked and make fools of ourselves. It'll be just like high school all over again!
But to answer your question, I'm sure a lot of people see them as showing off how successful their lives are and we all know truly successful people don't need to show off. I see a high school reunion as a chance to see who got fat. Of course, I was a giant b!tch in hs...and obviously that hasn't changed!

I went to my 10 year HS reunion 2 years ago, wow that makes me feel old. Anyway, it was so much fun. We talked about the old days and how we have changed since then. There were some people there who wanted to run it in others faces how "successful" they were, but no one really paid attention to them. I say if you have the chance to go it's definitely worth it, but if not then maybe the next one you'll be able to make it.
Bahahahahaha. I went home for BIL's wedding weekend before last and met up with my BFF at the bar. We saw so many people we went to HS with, and a lot of them have packed on a good 20+ pounds. Made me feel AWESOME! lol

I graduated HS in '05 so I guess a 5 year would be this year. I don't think my HS does a 5 year. I also heard (when I was in HS) that it's up to the senior year class council to organize the reunions. I'm not sure if anything will get organized, and if they do, I'm sure my (and others) invitations will be "lost in the mail." My HS was very clicky.
But if there is a 10 year, depending on where we're living, I might go. I'd like to see who got fat like you said. And no one ever thought I would get married, but I was one of the first to do it. There were four I know of who got married before me, at least one is divorced already. I consider that a success even though others might not.

I didn't have a 5 year reunion, but if there is a 10 year one I would definitely like to go if it happens to fit into my work schedule. I went to the same school from grade 1-13, so I knew a lot of those people for a very long time. I think I would enjoy reminiscing about the old days. On the rare occasion that I am back in Toronto during the school year I try to stop by the school to see the staff members who are still there.

I didn't go to my 5, it was a drunken shitshow in Boston, from what I heard. I honestly had much closer friends in the grade above and the grade below me, so I didn't feel much desire to go. I think to an extent people like to "show off" their successes. My sister's 10 year was this past year and she was very eager to talk about her husband, house, and 2 kids with "those jerks that are still living at home". Yikes.
I might go to my 10 year. I've reconnecting with some good people on Facebook, and it might be fun to see them again. That's 2 years from now, so we'll see.

yup...I want to see who got fat as well..unfortunately, i know it was most of my friends. Which is probably karma because my group of friends were they um..more popular, b!tchy group.
we didnt have a 5 year, but I'll definitely go to the ten year. I do see it as people wanting to show off, and I'll probably be way more strict on my diet.
however, I see a TON ofpeople from HS still at the local bar...so almost every weekend is a mini reunion.
sighh..i have to get out of this place! haha
If we did a 5 year, I didn't hear about it. And I have my doubts as to whether or not I will get the information for our 10 yr. I've moved around a lot since HS and I don't really keep in touch with many of my 500+ class mates, so...
As for whethered I'd go or not, I probably would. I've changed a lot since HS, I'm a lot more confident and self-assured. I'd like to see how my classmates have changed over the years and it would be cool to see if any of the people I was "kinda" friends with in school are people I could be real friends with now that we're adults.
