Molokai Suggestions

The hubs and I are thinking of hopping over to Molokai for Memorial Day. We've been once before but we stuck primarily to Molokai Ranch/Maunaloa. We didn't sightsee - it was more of a relax and do nothing weekend trip. I've been looking on VRBO - anyone have a favorite place to stay? And any suggestions on what to see or do? We like to explore, hike, snorkel and we'll be renting a jeep. TIA!

Re: Molokai Suggestions

  • Don't forget to visit Phallic Rock.  Stick out tongue

We LOVED Molokai even though we got stared at by the local kids like we had three heads.  Papohaku Beach was pretty amazing but be careful if it's windy.  Free microdermabrasion on any part of your body not covered by clothing.  We also loved the drive out to the easternmost point of the island.  We stopped at different points along the route to check out small churches and beaches.

It's too bad that the Kalaupapa trail is closed.  We hiked down for just a short short distance when we were there and it was amazing!

We just enjoyed driving around the island.  It's so unspoiled and beautiful there!  We stayed at a b&b and while it was nothing fancy, it was spacious and clean AND included breakfast.  Cheryl, the owner, would sit with us at breakfast and give us the scoop on what was happening on the island and also helped us plan our sightseeing day.  It was awesome.  AND she had the cutest white kitty cat that would lounge about on her lanai.  Their website says that Snoball passed away but it seems like there are two new kitties there now.  Smile

  • Lisa - Thanks for your suggestions! I am bummed the Trail is closed too but I'm hoping that can be our excuse for returning for a third trip :)

Amy- Good to see you! I don't stop by very often but I'm trying to be better about it. How's Kai doing?

  • We were only there for a day, but I second everything Lisa said.  I particularly liked Halawa Valley on the east end of the island and walking along the cliffs near Mo'omomi.  Have fun!
