I swear...it's like one step forward, two steps back. I started working out to lose weight and I eff up my back and can't work out.
My chiropractor did xrays yesterday and said that I have a pretty significant disc bulge between the L4/L5 vertebrae in my lower back (which is where I had surgery ten years ago) so my sciatic nerve is being pinched all to hell. Holy pain! He's pretty confident that it can be fixed by adjustments instead of surgery. DH thinks chiropractors are bad and that I'm wasting time and money. I've gone to this chiropractor before when I've had back issues and he's always been able to get me back to "normal".
I'm praying that everything goes as the Dr. thinks and that I won't need surgery. I really can't afford to be out of work and I really don't want to go through surgery again.
TIA!
Re: T&P needed....
This! Back pain is no fun! I hope you feel better soon, too!
Have you been to an ortho too get a second opinion? My family works with orthopedic surgeons so they're usually of the same opinion as your husband about chiros. I'm a little bit more open minded. I figure if it works for you, that's great. If you're concerned they'll push you into surgery, you're working with the wrong doctor. My doctor fought to keep me out of surgery with intense physical therapy, but unfortunately it wasn't possible. However, post-surgery plus more pt, I'm finally starting to feel better (though I still have long road ahead).
My only concern is if your chiro is giving you serious exercises to strengthen the area along with adjustments. If you don't strengthen your core, even with the adjustments your body won't be able to hold itself in the proper position and you'll just end up hurting yourself again.
