Kitchenaid Mixer

How much would you be willing to pay for a brand new 5qt Kitchenaid Mixer? It is an Artisan Series Komen Foundation (pink) and has NEVER been used. The box is opened, but the mixer never taken out of the box.

It was on sale at macy's for $299.99 and on amazon for $249.00. I am trying (unsuccessfully) to sell it on Craigslist (tried for $250.00) and have gotten loads of responses, but no real hits. I don't want to sell it for too low since it's never been used!

How much should it go for?

Re: Kitchenaid Mixer

  • I have no idea, Lori.  Your post just reminded me of a friend telling me that she just didn't get Craigslist because she listed a lot of good stuff that didn't sell and things she thought were meant for Goodwill (used shower head, old used printer) sold quickly.
  • If you're willing to be patient, you can try to include a link to the Macy's site so people expect it to cost $300, then keep re-listing at $250 and hope someone comes through.  It doesn't cost anything to keep posting it.

But, my general rule is that I'd expect a new item to at least be about 20% cheaper on CL if I'm going to go through the effort of chasing it down.  (I'd want at least 50% off for a used one.)  And because I would check Amazon for pricing, I'd base my retail price on the $250 version.  So I'd probably pay $200 and think I was getting a good deal.

I tend to agree with this...if I was looking on Craigslist for a deal, I'd probably price compare with Amazon and would want to pick it up from CL for cheaper. So I'd pony up $200, but I doubt I'd go as high as $250. Then again, I'm a bargain hunter and have been known to waste DAYS looking online for the best price for something lol!

  • Yup, the number that popped into my head was $200.  Like Melissa said, you can post the Macy's link and place the Craigslist ad for $250 and keep trying.  Depends if you're going for the quick sale or don't mind holding out for more money.  Also, if people are really looking for a good deal, they aren't shy about trying to bargain with you on Craigslist ;)

Personally, if I had the choice between Amazon and Craigslist for the same price, I would go for Amazon.  Nothing personal against you, but I would feel it is more reputable.

  • I'd probably pay $200, but probably not $250....I'd just buy it new then.

  • I LOVE my Kitchenaid mixer.  I use it all the time.  I would probably pay the $250 only because I cant live without mine ;)

me too.  the hassle of having to go pick it up, bring cash or write a check, etc.   i'd rather just order of amzn if it's going to be $250 anyway, and have it show up at my door.

  • Thanks for your input everyone! Think I will try Melissa's idea of linking the Macy's sale and seeing if I get a hit. :)
  • well, considering i got my 6qt for about $260, i probably wouldn't pay $250 for the 5qt...but that was an amazing deal we got on it that doesn't come around but every once in a while.

really though i think it is more maybe the color of the mixer?

Ha! This is a good point! It really IS about the color of the mixer - is it a trendy one?

OOPS I guess this changes things. The color that we have is actually priced more expensive on Amazon:

That does change things! I think that personally, I'd probably still want to pay a bit less than $250 (since the one on Amazon is $269), but might go over $200 if I wanted a pink one.
