Since when.......

Did Prom wrist corsages go out of style? I was just looking at my little cousin's prom pics on Facebook and I noticed all of the girls have bouquets instead of corsages. Since when did this happen? Maybe this is just the trend at her HS in Rhode Island, but I find it so weird!

Re: Since when.......

  • Nope, not a trend. For as long as I can remember, girls down here have always had big bouquets instead of wrist corsages. BUT, every girl also wears a big poofy white dress similar to a wedding gown to Senior Prom too...so idk.
  • FWIW, everyone at my sister's senior prom a couple weeks back had wrist corsages -- and we had them at my prom, too.  I'd actually never heard of the big bouquets.  Maybe it depends on the area?  I am technically in the midwest.
  • I grew up in the land of wrist corsages too. you'll see the occasional bouquet but mostly corsages. I grew up in the Mid-Atlantic

  • All the girls I used to teach when I was home from youth group all had wrist corsages.

However, EVERY girl in their pics (and it was like a group of 30+ girls in a photo) had short dresses on.  They were sparkly and ruffly like old prom dresses, just short.  And some VERY short.  Is this new and normal?  What happened to fun long prom dresses?

  • Short is definitely in. DH and I went to a festival last night and this one girl was walking down the street in a micro mini dress. I said to DH "Oh, the hoochies are out tonight" thinking they were going to a club. Nope, there was a senior prom right around the corner they were walking to. Yeesh! I didn't see many corsages or bouquets so I'm not sure what's in with that. I wore a corsage to my prom.

I know!!!  The dresses that ARE long have massive cutouts in the sides, no back, or a V-neck cut low enough to show the girl's belly button!  Not to mention the long ones are typically skin tight.

I looked at DH and asked him if these prom dresses got worse every year, what would they be like when any future daughter went to prom?  He said he refuses to let our daughter out of the house in a thong and pasties!!!  Ah, gotta love him...

  • Ya hers was long thankfully, she is in the purple. It looks like all of her friends wore long too, they were just tight fitting and minus the tulle! In my day it was the massive pretty princess dresses in bright colors! Although I chose black and white of course! Anyway she lives only an hour and a half from where I grew up so I thought it was kind of weird, granted I went to prom 7 years ago so it could just be something new in our area!

  • I, too, live in a land of wrist items.  Not all have been floral though.  When I went to prom 100 years ago, dresses were mostly short (long for winter formal) and had some pouf to them.  I think everything has gotten skimpier.

  • Everyone that went to Prom this year at my old high school still wore wrist corsages.  I've never seen girls have bouquets for prom...that's weird to me.
