You can always count on me for a good story. Either I am breaking my ankle throwing a snowball at the beach or running off tenants for stealing electricity. So to keep my good name - I got another one for you.
Friday afternoon DH asked me to grab him a beer. So I do and as I am walking back to the living room I happen to look out the kitchen window. What do my trained eyes see? I dont know but something is sticking out of the drain pipe under our carport. I called DH to investigate with me and its a SNAKE! So we go to the side door and we start deciding the best form of action to take with this snake. And of course DH is deathly afraid of snakes and I can not very well kill one with the ankle on the mend. But before we decide I look down to the side of the doorstep - there is another freaking SNAKE! OMG what the hell - is our new house a breeding ground for snakes?!?!! And this one is bigger than the original snake. So DH goes out the back door, comes back and he is white as a sheet saying baby I can not do this - you are going to do it. I give him the
look b.c ok so I have a boot on now but can not walk without my crutches, much less run if I have too. So snake number one makes the great escape while we are having this discussion. DH goes out to the 2nd snake and yells at me BABY YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO DO THIS!!!! So I put my boot back on and limp down the back door stairs to see DH rear back with the shovel, miss, hit again and run. LOL. I said to him that he has to get the head and he yells at me saying that I have got to give him time b.c he is scared. Poor fella - did a great job at getting rid of snake #2, but his heart paid the price. And of course - I have pictures.
If you are afraid of snakes - do not look any further!!!!
Snake #1
His hole he came out of
Snake #2
Re: Lions, and Tigers, and SNAKES OH MY!!!!
Oh dear Lord that would have given me the Heeby Geebies! DH has joked about getting a snake. I told him if he does, he better like dumpster diving.
Great story!
Good luck with the snakes
YIKES!
we found a snake a few weeks ago. DH didn't show it to me until after it was dead.
Okay, that made me laugh so hard I am tearing up. Please, please, next time grab the video camera! I can just see you trying to limp out and kill a snake. Plus, your poor DH (which would have been me...I give him props for going out there) I would have kept myself locked up in the house!
Ughh, those pictures gave me the shivers. I am not a snake fan at all!
Oh squesh, you definitely live an exciting life.
I thought about the video camera AFTER it all happened!! DH's face was totally priceless - but I do give him big props for doing it esp since they are his biggest fear.
::shudders:: Those are some pretty large snakes. Totally not a fan.
I've seen a few baby ones in our yard... yes, I know where there are babies there are mommas but I'd rather not think about that right now
I really think they were escaping the heat AND mating. But no matter - neither of us were happy to see two snakes at our doorstep. We have also been told that pine straw attracks them so DH started clearing it up on Saturday afternoon!!
Also the only option we have for pest control is Snake Away - too bad Billy the Exterminator lives in LA!!
Are you sure that is your house and not mine? Seriously! We have had 3 snakes in 3 weeks at our house. The first one was on our roof trying to get in the house through the eves. A fearless friend of our neighbors climed up on our roof and hooked it and threw it down for DH to kill. The 2nd one was discovered because of the incessant barking of on of our dogs. When I went out to investigate what she was barking at there was a snake trying to get into our crawl space. The third one was just yesterday. We were not home but our next door neighbor called us to let us know that he killed one trying to climb our lattice to get onto our back porch. Thanks again to the incessant barking of our dog he went out to investigate. I would really like to know why my house is such an attraction!
Too funny about your DH! I'm glad it got handled though!! You're a brave woman!
What kind of snake is that stripped one?
They are both Chicken Snakes. The one that looks black came out of a nice dark hole and hadnt gotten its stripes back. Not poisonous from what I am told. I also hear Snake Away is good to use (Lowes) - you guys may want to get some!!!!!!
OMG, those snakes are huge!
But damn, that was a funny story, girl. My DH is just like yours when it comes to snakes. I can only imagine what he would do if we had any in our yard. I bet he couldn't even kill them, so at least your DH swallowed his fear enough to do that!
