Skydiving Update

Hey ladies! I know I told you all that I was going skydiving this weekend. Well, it was AMAZING. Except for the part where my first parachute failed and we had to use the emergency one. However, I used this story to get a lot of free drinks that night. Thanks to all for the encouragement, I am SO glad I did it!

Re: Skydiving Update

  • OMG - I think my heart would have stopped seeing as I got nervous just reading that line about the parachute not opening.  This is why I'm now too old to skydive... I used to think it would be fun -- I think I get less daring every year.
  • Holy sh!t! I think that would scare me off from doing it again. Thank goodness for backup chutes, and glad everything went great!
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • I was fairly calm because it happened really fast and my instructor was amazingly good at not allowing me to freak out, but my poor husband and sister saw my first parachute fall to the ground. I think THEY were more scared than I was!
  • Wow.  I've been skydiving before and LOVED it, but your experience is exactly the reason why I wouldn't do it now.  I feel like I have so much more to lose than I did when I was 18.

Kudos to you & your tandem for keeping your cool.  One thing I loved about jumping was that there were like 3 back up plans (two shutes, a ripcord & an altitude trigger).  I'd have had a heartattack if I was up above you and saw yours fail though.  Not really a warm fuzzie if you're the one relying on that technology in about 30 seconds, lol.

Do you know if the failed parachute was a packing issue or mechanical?

  • I agree with Choo. I would have pisssed myself.

It sounds like so much fun anyway.  Glad you had a great time!
