Hi Ladies!
My DH and I are considering a possible move to the Austin area. We've heard some good things about the Round Rock area. Can you give me some good and bad points about the area? Also how is the job situation for elementary school teachers there? TIA
Re: Round Rock Ladies
I think the golden question to the question is - where will you be working?
Schools in Round Rock are good, but the two best districts around are Leander and the area of AISD that feeds into Westwood High School.. those usually get pilots and awards, and make all the lists.
I ask about work because -(this is the huge bad point) Traffic is a HUGE deal! If you are working in Round Rock or North Austin - its a great place to live. If you are working downtown or South - it would be best to look further south. Traffic going into town from the north side is TERRIBLE in the mornings. I had the reverse (downtown->round rock) thing going on, and would drive northward thinking, "Wow, I'd hate to be stuck in that" every day.
Otherwise - Round Rock is pleasant, the taxes are lower than Pflugerville, and you'll find what you need if you are looking for the type of suburban area that you have to drive everywhere to. If you're looking for something more pedestrian, Central-to-South is a lot better for that kind of thing.
My DH and I live in Round Rock. We live on 3406 in the Wood Glen neighborhood and LOVE IT. I work downtown and although traffic is pretty bad, I am used to it now. If you aren't used to traffic, this might be something you look into a little further, if you are planning on working downtown. It takes me a good 45 minutes to get to work in the morning and usually the same on the way home, unless it is Friday. Fridays are always worse.
With that being said, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE our neighborhood and the area around there.
HTH.
