Brazilian Blowout?

Has anyone had one? It's the deal on Groupon, and I'm such a sucker I'm contemplating buying one. I've been trying to rock the wazy look, but it always looks limp in photos. My friends say it looks pretty, and I think it looks pretty good in person, but I worry no one is telling me how bad it looks.

Here is an example on a day I thought it looked really good (in person), but not as much in photo.

What are your thoughts?

And if you get it, does it mean that you don't have to blow it dry and flat iron it everyday?

Re: Brazilian Blowout?

  • I have no idea but I'm curious. Is it like a straighter? I've my hair chemically straightened once and I still had to flat iron every day.
  • Your hair does look good- they aren't lying to you.  :)

Thanks! My mom tells me constantly how it looks unprofessional and that I need to cut it or pull it back.

But she also told me I should be wearing a girdle when I wear cotton dresses. Hmm

  • Here's my "professional" opinion on this.  I personally think it's great if you have really hard to manage hair and you want to get some softness/silkiness back into it.  BUT I would still style my hair daily.  The blowout would probably help not having to flat iron really wavy/coarse hair every day, but unless you blowdry with a round or flat brush every day and actually dry some style into the hair (i.e. give yourself a normal blowout daily), I think your hair is still going to look like you didn't do anything to it but wash it and dry it.  Which is fine; it doesn't look bad that way for most people, it just doesn't look great.  KWIM?

(and I mean "you" as in the general "you," not you personally!)

  • I think TX-Bride was looking into this not too long ago. You might page her about it.

  • I have looked into it, have had a consultation at a salon, interviewed couple of poeple who have had it done. And decided I was going to get it done when Localiter had a deal like groupon's.

Here is a link that you may find it useful.

The process is really long, takes about 2-3 hours depending on how much hair you have, if your hair is color treated it aborbs the Keratin much better and you get better results, it's not like Japanese straightening that you wash and wear, you would still blow dry your hair just to get it dry, the heat somehow activates the keratin and you will have smooth hair, you still can wear your hair with a wave or curl, if you style your hair. Essentailly it gets the frizz out of your hair but it won't be pin straight (if you have naturally curly hair), if you have somewhat straight hair then it would be like you flat ironed your hair, that's how my friends' hair look like. The one with really curly hair, it more smooth but still some wave, the one with a slight kink, her hair looks like it's been flat ironed.

The price in Austin ranges from 200 (at ulta) to 400 (at some salon in domain).

I have prepaid $175 instead of 350 at Path salon, so price wise I think the deal on groupon is good.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

I haven't got it done yet, may appt was tomorrow, just got back from Derm, that she took a sample from a mole from my scalp, so had to cancel my appt.

  • I clearly have no life now that I have babies.  I read the title of this post and thought it had something to do with, um, unpleasant bathroom issues following a bad wax job.  So glad I was wrong.
