Are you someone that rarely gets a break?

I think I am.  I mean I got a "break" in terms of many LARGE things like health, family, job, etc. I'm sooo thankful for that but those little things just get on my nerves.

2 hours before I was going to leave for Chicago, I realize somehow I did not have my vehicle registration.  That is another story.  I had to drive without it.  So, knowing I never get a break, I pretty much knew I was going to get pulled over at some point.  So, I made it there fine.  On the third day I was there, I got lost.  I pulled into a parking lot because I HATE  talking on the phone and driving.  I just can't hear very well.  Anyways, I talked to my cousin, she set me straight, I turned on the car while talking to her (becz I was running late) and started driving while I finished up our conversation.  Low and behold, Mr. Cop who could see I was not from Illinois, has to pull me over for talking on my cell phone.  I was really nice and understanding with him and told him I didn't know the rule since I was from Michigan and admitted I had made a mistake.  Of course, he sits in his freakin' car for like 10 minutes writing a parking violation ticket which was for $100 for talking on my phone and driving.  The whole car registration thing did not come into play becz he asked for my insurance instead.  So I guess that is the type of "break" that I get.  But now I'm out $100!!!

Re: Vent

  • Sad  Sorry.

Did you have fun in Chicago otherwise?

  • The bright side: you totally got a break because he didn't ask for your registration!  In Michigan, at least, I think you have to pay a pretty hefty fine if you're caught without it.

I'm sorry you got a ticket though.  That's totally lame that he didn't give you a break on that one.  Sad

  • Ugh what a jerk! :(

  • What a jerk.  I suppose everyone has a responsibility to know the laws in the state where they are driving, but come on.  There are so many crazy drivers in IL, I would think his time could have been better served telling one of them to cool it.

    That blows chunks.

But how was the conference/workshop thing? Did you have a great time? Learn a lot? otherwise enjoy the weekend??

  • Ugh, that stinks. :-(  I'm sorry he gave you a hard time - but you did catch a break on the registration!

  • No  That stinks.  I didn't know that Chicago had that law either. :(

  • If it makes you feel any better -- I got the same ticket, in Chicago a few years ago.
