is anyone really happy with their pill?
i've been on yasmin for 6 years and i've always been really happy with it... but now with all of the controversy over yaz and yasmin, i feel kind of nervous about staying on it. does anyone take something that they've been consistently happy with? i hate the idea of switching when this one has worked so well for so long, but it really just kind of freaks me out. thanks in advance!

Re: is anyone really happy with their pill?
I'm not sure what the controversy is about, but if it has anything to do with risk of stroke and death, well, all BC pills carry that risk. It says so in the pamphlet that comes with your prescription.
Most women don't seem to be happy with their pills, usually because of the decreased sex drive which is a very common side effect. If you're happy with yours, count yourself lucky! But as you get older, YOUR hormones will change, so whatever you love now may not work for you down the road. Lots of women have to switch to lower-dose pills as they get older, so always feel free to talk to your doc if you're experiencing side effects you're not happy with.
To answer your question, I couldn't find any pill I liked, so I have a non-hormonal IUD (Paragard) and I love it.
Honestly? I'm rather happy with my pill right now. I switched from a dual pill to a low dose, progestin only pill (pop). This is not a run of the mill low dose pill (like ortho tri-cyclen lo) because those contain both estrogen and progestin. I had to drop the estrogen due to migraines. POP pills are common with people who have high blood pressure, migraines, or are breast feeding.
My sex drive reappeared, my appetite dropped to normal, and my migraines have almost completely disappeared. The only drawback is that my cycle is not regulated (due to the lack of estrogen in the pills). That has not been a big deal really.
Good luck with your hunt! I know lots of people search and search for a good bcp and, sometimes, they never find it.
Its not REALLY a pill, but I am really happy with my Nuvaring. Love not having to take a pill daily and 99% of the time, its not in the way during sex or anything.
My sex-drive hasn't really gone down either, which is a common problem for women on the pill.
I also take Yasmin and love it. For a few months I switched to a generic of Loestin due to cost and hated it. My appetite was out of control, I had crazy mood swings and my sex drive drastically decreased. I stuck it out for 3 months to see if it just required some getting used to, but then I switched back to Yasmin and within a few days I was back to normal.
I'm honestly curious how that is possible. There is little to no difference in brand and generic. They may change one ingredient if that. It has to do with the company earning back the money spent on trials and then the drug can be open to a co. that wants to make the generic.
I'm happy with my pill. I'm on Ogestrel and take it continuously which means I only get 2 periods a year and I choose when they come. Ogestrel is a high dose pill but it's the only one that works for me.
If you're worried about blood clots and strokes, the risk is there with every pill.
She said she WAS on Yasmin but switched to a generic form of LoEstrin because Yasmin costs too much. I understand, I switched to Sprintec, a generic form of Ortho TriCyclen when my insurance started charging me $50 A PACK for Yaz. So she just used a generic form of a completely different pill, as far as I know there is no generic for Yasmin yet.
ETA: I should add that I love Yaz! Sprintec was also great, but we're on TriCare (military insurance) now and the overseas base we're at doesn't carry generics, so I have to use Yaz. I actually preferred Sprintec I think.
I am! I think I'm on Loestrin, and I've been on it about 6 years with no issue. Then again, I've never had problems with any BCP.
This. I have had very little to no side effects from this BC and I love it!
I've been on Yaz for four years and I love it! Don't worry about the controversy. I talked to my gyno about it and she said all these side effects people are suing the company for can happen on any pill. Switching brands won't change your risk.
People can have such different reactions to different pills, I think when you find one that you like you should stick with it!

My doctor gave me Ocella, which is a generic for Yasmin. I love it. Don't switch if you don't need to. If your body responds well, leave it alone. If you were to suffer the side effects, you would have known by now.
It was so hard to find a pill that works for me! I needed a stronger dosage pill to better regulate my periods. With the lower dosage's i would have ALOT of breakthrough bleeding, and acne. But Ocella is working for me.
