Fisher Homes

Hi,

We are considering building a new home with Fisher in one of thier KY sub-divisions.   We would love to get any insight or experience from other who may have built or know some who built with them.

Thanks,

Re: Fisher Homes

  • I've not built with them, but I know several people who have and non of them have any complaints at all. Plus, I work very closely with them through my job, and I would classify them as a trustworthy company I would feel comfortable doing business with.
  • I have no personal experience, but one of my cousins was a building contractor and for a period of time did some work for Fischer homes. He said after working with them he would never build with them. Poor quality materials, and constantly asking him to cut corners in his work.
  • Someone in my family bought a condo built by Fisher, and I noticed some issues almost immediately. For example, the island in the kitchen was wobbly, as was the hand rail along the stairs.

    I wrote this!
  • Bottom line no matter who you build with the builder will try to cut corners. Their goal is to build homes and make a profit. Go into it with your eyes open.

Check your job site daily to see the progress and point everything out you are concerned with the day you see it.

If you do decide to build, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!

Have you looked at existing homes? There are still a lot of good deals out there on the market and that will remove all the stress of building and fixing mistakes.... I wish I had bought and existing home a year ago.

  • LOL...DH and I always joke about this because our home (in an older suburb) was built by the Fischer Homes family, before they really started their home-building company. The person we bought our home from was actually an extended family member who had owned our house for almost 20 years. I'm NOT saying our 60-year old ranch is indicative of the quality of their current homes, but wow, there are some weird things in our house. We have "fake" doorknobs that don't actually turn to open doors, doors that don't quite fit their opening, etc. I don't know, take it FWIW.
  • My parents are in a Fischer home and whereas they've had few to no problems with their actual home in the 6 years since it was built, there are major problems with the plumbing lines from where Fischer joined into the city lines to lay pipe for the subdivision. Massive repairs - as in whole front yards dug up, pipe relaid, yards resodded. The HOA is suing (or is considering suing - I am not sure where they are in that process at this time) Fischer since the cause of the problem is the materials they used in laying the pipe.

  • My only experience with them is when we talked to them about building a house last year.  I was really turned off by the sales rep because of the way he talked down to us.  We ended up going with an independent builder and couldn't be happier.

The other reason we decided against Fischer is because DH's best friend built with them and said he would never do it again.  He has had problems and they do not stand behind their work.

You're going to get mixed reviews for every builder I'm sure, but PP is right, you need to check on the job site every day, document things, take pictures, etc.

This is our builder and I highly recommend him so if you decide to explore other options for NKY I think he is definitely worth talking to.

    Good Luck!

  • Ditto what the others say...  Every construction home is going to have some sort of issue.  We had a horrid time with Fischer and our condo.  Here's a link to an earlier post about it.  http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/36524869.aspx

See my post.  That was Fischer.

That being said, I also know others who have Fischer houses and love them.  So it's a toss up...  Just know that building new comes with its own set of headaches.
