Update on Ozzie

So Chymes asked about Ozzie. He is doing better. We haven't had to wake up in the middle of the night with him a while. For a while there he would wake up and cry, so we would have to go down to check on him and take him outside.

We make sure we pull his water bowl before he goes to bed and also make sure he get settled in for the night on the carpet, not hardwood floors. It is easier for him to get up that way.

He had a check up a few weeks ago and the dr. said he looked great. He actually has lost about 12 lbs or so. He is "down" to 123 lbs.  Embarrassed

Aw, I'm glad to hear this, especially what the vet had to say. I look forward to many more years of St. Patty's Day photos!

  • I must have totally  missed something.  Is Ozzie OK?  I hope so!  He's the gentle giant!

I mentioned several weeks ago that Ozzie was getting needy in his old age. He was waking up in the middle of the night and someimes he acts very whiny and clingy.  He is 11.5 years old, so getting up there. Sad

  • I'm glad to hear that he's handling old age okay these days.
  • Getting old is rough on doggy joints. We give Kita a glucosamine tablet every night. When she goes more then a few days without them she moves a lot slower. Glad to hear that Ozzie is doing well (now that you figured out how to make him comfy).

Meeko gets glucosamine and and ultram twice a day, and it really helps her pain and arthritis.

We also sub half of her kibble for canned green beans at night and it has helped her lose quite a bit of weight.

  • Lola was on glucosamine before her Addison's Disease was under control, too. It seemed to help her. My aunt gives her Golden dog food in the am and a can of green beans in the pm to keep Mocha's weight under control.

Glad to hear he's doing better!

  • Glad to hear that Ozzie is doing better.  Like Chymes, I'm glad that the vet had good things to say, too.

He seems like a such a sweet dog.

  • So glad that Ozzie is doing well. :-)
