Wedding fashion question (with PIP!)

Ok, so I know you can't wear white to a wedding (subquestion: can you wear a white dress with a colorful pattern on it?  I didn't want to risk it so I haven't gone down that road, but would love your opinions), but what about gold?  It's a light gold, and that's what has me concerned.  I've been hitting the online sample sales pretty hard and bought this dress yesterday but now I'm not sure I like it.  I have two weddings to go to this summer, so I could wear it to one or the other, but if you guys don't like it, I will just return it.

Although, the bad news is I don't get a refund, just a credit.  Maybe I could save it for some far off fancy occasion that I don't know will ever happen.  I'm feeling very self-doubtful lately.

Re: Wedding fashion question (with PIP!)

  • I could add that the first wedding is Tulsa, heat-of-summer at the Jazz Hall of Fame wedding, and the second wedding is east coast, Dartmouth, friend from high school but my parents will be there wedding.  This dress might work better out east, where I will probably be dancing less and dressing to impress more.
  • Since more gowns now are not white and instead shades of ivory and gold, I'd be a little hesitant. Unless you know the color of the bride's dress. But that's me. I'd rather err on the side of caution and etiquette.

  • I think its completely acceptable but that you're right it probably fits better with the east coast wedding.

And I think a dress with a colorful pattern on a white background would also be fine at a wedding.  I would just stay away from dresses that are all white/ivory.

  • I really like that dress, but I have to agree with Mamie. It is very light gold. If you do want to go ahead and wear it, I think it is better suited for the east coast wedding. I would think that it would be hard to dance and very hot in that dress in Tulsa.

  • I like the dress but would agree with PP that it might be a bit close to the wedding colors. Also, while I adore the dress, the fabric kind of looks bridesmaid like and you dont' want people to think you are trying to be part of the wedding.
  • I was annoyed and took notes on who wore white to my wedding (MIL and DH's cousin), but would not have been bothered by anyone wearing that dress.
  • I actually don't yet know what the east coast wedding colors are, since we got an evite STD.  The Tulsa wedding seems to be red and brown, from the invitation, so I would probably be Ok there, but I still don't know...
  • I think that dress would be fine at a wedding.

Of the two you described, Dartmouth one sounds like the better fit for the dress.  Could work at either though, just different accessories.

And I think a white dress with a bunch of print to it is fine for weddings.
