Re: anyone have kidney stone advice/remedies?

  • Poor fella.  It is supposed to be really painful - esp for men - OUCH.  The only thing I can think of is drink lots of cranberry juice.  Hope he feels better soon.

  • Yowzer.  Sorry KB to hear about your DH.  The only time my Dh had a stone, we had to go to the ER for it and we were lucky in that it either passed quickly and/or dissolved quickly as well (I can't remember which happend, but by later that day he was OK).  Good luck!

  • Kidney stones usually pass on their own if they're 5mm or smaller. Drink plenty of fluids. Take pain medications. If it doesn't pass in a day or two make sure to follow up with a urologist. I hope he's feeling better soon! Women say kidney stones are worse than child birth!

  • Lots of water and wine work for me.  He needs to stay hydrated, and the wine makes me pee while numbing everything just a tad.
  • I had one a few yrs ago that was too small for them to do anything; the urologist told me to drink a lot of water w/lemon juice (said the acid would help wear down the stone). It must have worked b/c I don't remember passing it & when they did follow-up ultrasound it was gone.

  • Had one a couple months ago... Lots of OTC pain relievers, lots of fluids, heating pad therapy.

  • I had one in college.  They are painful and mine came about just like his-pain in my lower back turning to unbearable.  I haven't had one since...I do drink a lot... water and liquids that is...  I know cranberry juice is supposed to be good for the kidneys but as far as preventing the stones, I don't know what you can do.  Check out ehow... it had some interesting advice listed.
