Anyone been to a wedding @ Duke Gardens?

I am heading to one there this weekend @ 4pm, and I am curious what to wear.  I was originally planning to wear a black halter dress that is about knee length with sandals.  Now I am thinking this may be a little too dressy?  Anyone have any thoughts/input/suggestions?

Re: Anyone been to a wedding @ Duke Gardens?

  • Is the reception there as well?
  • No, the reception is over at Bay 7 in American Tobacco District in Durham
  • I got married at Duke Gardens. I think that's fine to wear. Not sure what kind of sandals you have, but you might want to consider very wide-heeled or flat ones. The paths are mostly dirt, sand, or fine gravel. Depending on where the ceremony is, the chairs will be set up on grass or slate pavers.
  • I haven't been to a wedding there, but we have one coming up there as well. I don't think that what you described sounds too dressy. (I'd rather be over-dressed than under-dressed, you know?)
  • Yeah, I was hoping it would be ok, but I wanted to make sure that I didn't have to lean more towards the sun dress.  I NEVER get a chance to wear this dress, so if I can, I want to :-)
  • I think you'll be fine.  I was a bridesmaid at a wedding there a few years ago.   As long as you're not in an ankle length dress suited for a black tie event you'll fit right in.   I agree what someone else said about the shoes.  Just be careful with the heels, depending on where the wedding is at the gardens.

  • I think what you have picked out sounds great.  Like pp, I had rather be over dressed than under dressed.  And with the reception being at Bay 7 (ps gorgeous, trendy, <3 all the brick!) I think what you have will be perfect.  I might do 2 different shoes though if you can.  One for easy walking in Duke Gardens (they might be getting married at one of the concrete/brick paver place though), and then one for style for Bay 7.
