Re: What is the difference between

  • I've never called anything "sneakers", I run in "running shoes" that are specifically designed for such activity, and anything else that laces up and has a rubber sole (and is not a boot) is a "tennis shoe" to me.

  • I consider sneakers and tennis shoes to be the same thing -- casual, athletic-looking shoes.

I consider running shoes to be good quality sneakers/tennis shoes that are specifically designed for runners.

  • I think I have trouble with this b/c I grew up in Ontario and we use the term "running shoes" for what you are calling "tennis shoes."

The other day I was looking for actual shoes to run in and when the sales lady asked me what I was looking for I paused and said, "Ummmm- tennis shoes to run in?"  lol- I felt so dumb not knowing the right term!

  • I have always considered sneakers and tennis shoes to be the same. Running shoes are specifically geared towards running. If you want to be more specific, they do have shoes specifically for tennis too lol, but I wont go there. LOL

If you want running shoes, go to Gazelle Sports, Striders, or Running Circles (Grand Haven) and get fitted for the proper pair. They will certainly know what you're talking about :) and help you get the right pair for your foot, stride,  etc.
