Two cats - free to a good home.

They answer to the names "Zoey" and "Jinx" and they've been living at my house for the past few years.

Just kidding.  We're going to keep them.   But, OMG I'm tired today.

There is an outdoor cat in my neighborhood who has begun "visiting" my cats.  This happened again at about midnight last night when the outdoor cat stopped by our slider in the basement, where Zoey and Jinx were hanging out.  This "visit" resulted in what Google is telling me is called displaced/redicrected aggression between my cats.  They began alternately fighting (not play fighting, but angry/fearful fighting), crying, and generally causing a ruckus from that point onward last night because they were so worked up.

Not much sleep to be had at my house last night.  We tried shutting them in a bedroom, but they (Zoey) responded by putting a paw under the door and slamming it back and forth against the door frame which, of course, only created more noise.

I'm tired and I foresee a lot of coffee in my future today.  Sleep

Re: Two cats - free to a good home.

  • Oh no, I'm sorry!

Our kitties have visits with Oliver, the neighbor kitty.  Oliver usually doesn't visit at night though, or if he does our cats don't notice because they sleep in our room.  They "fight" through the basement slider otherwise and fill our home with lovely cat yowls and hissing.

  • Oh man! I hate nights like that! Hopefully the outside kitty will take his/her visitations to some other house soon!

  • I hate when our neighbor's cat comes over.  The males handle it well, our female, not so much.  She's taken to peeing in front of the slider - like that's going to help keep the other cat away.  If anyone comes up with a solution for keeping the neighbor's cat in their own yard, I'm all ears.  MH wants to shoot that thing - not to mention all the peeing and pooping the little *** does in my flower beds.  I hiss and chase that little witch off every chance I get when I see her over at our house.  It obviously annoys me that someone else's cat is causing problems at my house if you can't tell. . .

  • That's awful.  Hopefully the visitor cat moves along.  Is the visitor a stray?

Good luck getting some sleep tonight.

That would annoy me, too.  This is just one more reason why cats should be kept indoors unless being supervised.

  • Start putting food in one of your neighbors yard or porch so the cat goes there instead or create a kitty sensor so that the sprinklers turn on when he comes into your yard :)

  • Haha, you'd think the food that is left out for her at her own house would be enough to keep her there!  We don't have underground sprinkling, but I love that idea!  Hmm, something to consider, since we wanted to eventually put it in anyway.

And I can't belive the nest blocks out the word sh.it.  Serious, are we grade schoolers?

Kasa, I hope your kitties calm down and you guys get some sleep tonight.

DUDE.  A few months ago our kitties started going to the bathroom outside of the litter box.  We've been trying to figure it out (adding another litterbox, different litter, etc.) but as I think back this might coincide w/when Oliver started making his visits.  And they usually go along that outside wall/slider door.  UGH - I'd never thought of these as being related before.

  • Thanks, guys.  Hopefully tonight will be a better night.

Suze, I don't know if its a stray or not.  I have not actually ever seen it.  But my parents were staying at our house on Friday night, and early Saturday morning, this happened.  The guest room is downstairs, and my mom got up to see what was going on.  She said there was a black cat sitting right on the other side of the door and it ran away when it saw her.  I have never seen a black cat in our neighborhood, so I'm not sure where it came from.

Juli and KerCo, have you tried Feliway for the peeing problems?  When Jinx was going outside of her litterbox a couple of years ago, our vet recommended it.  We started spraying it where she had been peeing (and also made some changes to our litterbox system), and she stopped going outside of the litterbox.  You might try spraying it by your slider if that's where your cats are peeing.  Good luck!
