I'm not Donald Trump....

So I just had to fire two of my employees, who are both high school age.  I seriously get more nervous firing people their age than I do an adult because I hate their attitudes and I know once they start giving me attitude I'd love to give it right back to them and be as unprofessional about it as I can!  But I refrained from being immature!

Now that it's all said and done I'm over the whole nervousness but I hate how I got all worked up about it.  And I hate how I now have to interview more high schoolers in order to replace them.  Seriously, do youngsters not take jobs seriously anymore?!?

Thanks for the vent.

Re: I'm not Donald Trump....

  • we had to hire a new receptionist at my work recently and some of the "kids" (in quotes because they were all actually over the age of 18 but probably under 22) coming in had no idea how to put a resume together or dress for an interview or some of them could not even remember the name of our business or the business managers name!  ugh!  so frustrating.  we ended up hiring a very competent adult but I felt bad for my manager for having to sift through all the resumes.

  • Sadly I think there is a lack of maturity/responsibility in a lot of high school kids.  Hope you can find some less "special" kids to replace the recently fired.
  • ugh that has got to suck. I hope I never have to fire anyone. I would probably cry through the whole thing
  • My dad still gets physically ill any time he has to fire someone.

As far as the attitude, I work with 2 girls who are 28 and 25 and still act like they're in high school.  I'm sorry you have to deal with it.
