Conservatives/Republicans/McCain-supporters

What the hell is happening in Nashville tonight?

The federal government buys and renegotiates mortgages? ?Who is this guy and what happened to the Republican candidate??

I am seriously going to have to vote for Bob Barr. ?I feel ill.?

Re: Conservatives/Republicans/McCain-supporters

  • This has been my problem with the current incarnation of the GOP for some time. Despite what they say, they are NOT the party of fiscal responsibility.

Yay for Bob Barr! I think I just fell a little bit in love with you!

  • I am unsure of this statement from McCain.  On one hand, it could cost less than the $850b that we are spending now, on the other, it goes against my fiscally conservative tendencies.  I am hoping for a Bloomburg run!

  • PSA - if you are a Republican and someone asks you "should we allow private industry to invent the solution to global warming or use federal R&D dollars? - the answer is always the 1000 garages.

  • Nina Easton summed it up perfectly for me:

"You guys might have thought we were witnessing a dull civics course tonight, but in fact we were witnessing something quite profound: ?The sinking ship of free market Republicans keel over, groan, and fall to the bottom of the sea. ?John McCain, without much notice, proposed a $300 Billion plan to nationalize home mortgages... "

  • I know-hearing it again is bugging me.  What a way to sound like the antithesis of conservatism.  Ick!

  • I think this is the problem when you have when the Republicans try to please the religious right and people with security concerns who may not be fiscal conservatives:  Spending cuts sound great when you're cutting spending for "them."  When you talk about cutting spending on things that affect "me," then it becomes a problem.

ETA:  if it makes you feel better, I don't think McCain actually has any intention of following through on that mortgage buying proposal.

  • That could be, but McCain is not a fiscal conservative so I am not really shocked by this.  Just more annoyed.

  • Yeah, I need to hear more about this.  I'm not voting for Bob Barr, I don't believe he's very authentic (but that's for a different post).  I can't imagine Palin would be for this idea.  Need details...

  • I know yeah4me. I chucked a pillow at the TV when I heard that.

I'd gladly vote for Bob Barr if those were the only 2 choices. But as bad as McCain would be Obama and his "high taxes are fair" policies would be a thousand times worse.

Yeah, there goes my final pillar of support for the Republicans.  If they aren't going to be fiscally conservative, I have nothing left for them.  Boooo.

Did they let Bob Barr out of the loony bin?  Because that man was insane in his former life.  In. Sane.
