S/O, S/O: Goal Job

What are you and your other's goal jobs (not your dream/fantasy job, but what you are working toward)? Or are you currently doing what you want to do?

Re: S/O, S/O: Goal Job

  • I use to be an accountant, and hated it.  I'm now a teacher and absolutely love my job.  Wouldn't want to do anything else, except stay at home mom.  Which will happen one day.

  • Some day, I would like to stay home and manage all the money from my eventual lottery win.  This would involve a lot of charity work, research & investments, and managing my own home/family/fabulous life.

My BF would love to flip houses.  That is, do and/or manage all the work himself.

ETA: Oooohhh, not my dream/fantasty job?  Evidently one of my goals should be reading comprehension.  I like what I do now, and hope to be able to stay with it.  Depending on how life works out, I can think of lots of things I would enjoy and wouldn't need additional training to do.  (Like, work in a book store if I don't need a job that pays all my bills!)

  • My goal job is to just make money at what I'm doing now!
  • I'd love to be a criminal defense attorney.

I enjoy what I am doing and hopefully I can just move up the ladder.

  • I hope to be able to do photography as full-time. My plan is to be in a position where I can be at home by the time we have kids, doing photography full/part-time.

DH is working on getting more articles/papers published, and working on his book (he actually has several books he wants to write). So he'd like to be an author and teach at the college level or go back for his MDiv and be a chaplain in the prison system.

  • I don't really know... I wish I could do my same job, but in my hometown of Austin.  Dallas is just so... bleh.  I guess eventually I want my boss's job or something similar at the Creative Director level.  As long as I still get to art direct occasionally.

Like I said below, DH is leaning toward getting his Masters in Education  toward the goal of being an assistant principal.

I'd love to be a criminal defense attorney.

And I'd love to be on the other side! Criminal or CPS prosecutor is what I'm working toward right now.

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • I am doing exactly what I want to do - I have the unique opportunity to build an archives program from the ground up for an entity that really needs it.  The problem is that I have no staff, no money, and no space, so I do sometimes wonder if I'll be able to build a successful program.  I want this program to be sustainable and around long after I leave, so that is my goal.
  • We're working towards saving up enough now that we can get into the investment real estate market (combo of rentals & flippers), with the ultimate goal of me being able to leave corp america behind and start a family, with the investments being equivalent to my part of the salary.
Hopefully - while I"m raising the kiddos, I can also be the property mgr/GC for our investment properties. . . Thats the "plan".

  • I think I have my goal job, I just haven't been paid for it yet. Ideally, I'd like someone to publish one of my books. Until then, I'm trying to not stress and enjoy writing them.

  • I would love love love to open a bakery. :)
  • Oops, I answered this in the first post :) But here is the recap.

If I have to always work, I would like to own a bookkeeping company to help small businesses manage their money and do financial consulting to help the businesses reach their goals.

  • DH wants to go into chip design eventually, and I want to be Bill Nye. No, really. I love teaching, I love science, and I'm a HUGE AW who wants nothing more than for a camera to follow me around while I talk about neat bugs that I saw. If I could get a show on Animal Planet or something I would be the happiest person who ever lived.

(Unless I got a teaching job at Hogwarts, because clearly that would be the best job ever.)

  • I don't know!  I wish I had an answer to this question.  My undergrad is in Finance and all my work experience is in internal accounting/accounts receivables.  Which I hate.

I stay home and I'm bored to tears.  Some days I feel like my life is just wasting away.  I'd love to go back to school and get my masters, but I don't know for what.  I don't know what I want to be when I grow up.

DH is happy as a mechanic but he's thinking of going to school for a bachelor's degree.  All he has currently is a high school diploma.

  • I want to lobby for an electric and/or energy company.  Good money and it's interesting work!
  • I'm doing what I want to do.  I guess my goals would be to continue to make more and more money doing it.

When kiddos come along I have the flexibility to work part time - which I will probably do and we'll live off DH's salary.

  • I'm a high school teacher now and would like to advance through administration and one day be a superintendent.  I see so many things in schools that I think are terrible so I want to change as much as I can.

DH is a retail manager.  He doesn't want to do that forever but has no idea what he'd rather do.

  • Hmm.. I love my job and its concept, but I'm not 100% happy because of my management atm.  I think if I change groups again, I have a shot at it.   I'd like to move to something that looks at Corporate Responsibility, or end up long term working for a non-profit.. or even be a race director that contributes directly to fundraisers for cancer.

The BF - I think he's in it, once the startup materializes a bit more.  They've made a LOT of breakthrough in the last six months, so hopefully that'll turn into "what he wants" in the next few of years.

ETA: This whole job and moving to NC thing is a part of that, and why I say few of years instead of like, now.:) His new job is pretty cool sounding too, but not is more of a means to an end I'd say.

I work long hours, I have a high stress job, and I don't get paid squat compared to what I actually do... but I still love my job.  I graduated from college wanting to be a Child Life Specialist at the Children's Hospital but now that I am where I am, I don't think I will ever leave.
