So, I had a panicky moment this morning! I was driving to work, listening to the radio, and on the radio they were talking about wedding dresses for some reason. Well, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, I think, "Where IS my wedding dress?" I suddenly realized that I brought it to the cleaners back in February to be cleaned and preserved in a box. And never picked it up!!! Now, most cleaners have either a 30- or 90- day policy that they donate clothes not picked up by then. So I almost had to pull over when I started to cry (damn hormones!), worried that my dress was gone forever! ![]()
Realistically, I shouldn't have worried too much, since we give our cleaners TONS of business with MH's work clothes, and she not only knows us (she automatically writes our name and number on the ticket when we walk in, without having to tell her), but she is the sweetest little Chinese lady you'll ever meet. I would think she would call me before getting rid of my wedding dress!
Well, it's safe, thank goodness! MH just called me to tell me he called her, and she has it. He's going to pick it up now. Whew!!!
On a side note/vent, though, I just found out it was $150 to have it preserved....boo! I guess I should have asked first, huh? ![]()
Re: Wedding Dress Panic!
And this is precisely why mine is still dirty and in the closet nearly 2 years later!
Not only is mine dirty in the closet, I remember that it had fallen off the hanger to the bottom of the bag, nearly 2 yrs as well. Loved that dress, lol!
haha, me too - mine hasn't seen the light of day since being put in the bag in hawaii! i've been meaning to sell mine, but i suppose that means i need to take it out, clean it, take photos, post it, ...ugh.
glad yours is safe and sound!
phew!
but yeah, mine is in still dirty in its bag. It only cost $300 so it's hard to justify spending 1/2 that to "preserve" it but I suppose I should. I tore my house apart trying to find the alteration clippings to see if there was anything usable as trim for Jack's baptisimal gown. I can't find it anywhere.
I left mine in Hawaii with my dad/family. He said they had it preserved or at least cleaned. I have no idea where they are keeping it but if it is treated the same way as the Christmas decorations, it'll be either moldy or destroyed soon.
Wish I could have brought it back with me but it would have been painful dragging it from Hawaii back to Germany.
Glad to hear yours is alright though.
Those freak out moments are never fun.
This is why I sold mine
The dry cleaner wound up ruining it anyway so in the end I got back the full amount of the dress
Cerclage placed @ 21w6d due to CI (IC)
So glad to hear that it was safe and sound!
Actually my DH reminded me to take mine just a few weeks after we got home from HI. Our drycleaners, like Lelekay's, we have been going to fro many years. When we brought in, she looked at the bag and congraulated us and then proceeded to ask, where they heck were you? It was that dirty! Pretty much after our reception, we walked around Waikiki and the city sidewalks were being cleaned with water, and the bottom of dress happened just to be dragging along. Once I got it back, it was like brand new
Yeah, I had mine cleaned once before.....after we got back from HI we had an AHR in WI, so I got it cleaned (but not preserved) for that. My cleaner was shocked, too, when she took a look at the filthy bottom (we did beach photos afterwards) But she was soooo proud when I picked it up and she got every speck out! She was showing it to everyone! This time I just needed a light cleaning from after the AHR, and for it to be boxed. I knew I should have asked, but it was only about $50 for it to be cleaned last time, I didn't think preserving and boxing would cost that much more, but I guess I was wrong!
My wedding dress looks perfectly preserved. As most of you know, I went swimming in the ocean in it! TTD
Instead of fine dry cleaning, I tossed it in the bath with some Tide at the Marriott. That was the best 50 cents I ever spent on a 100% silk dress.
I do wish that I had a fancier dress. I look at your pictures and think how beautiful you look. Oh, well, I went plain.
Newlyweds since 2007
what constitutes preserving anyway? I drycleaned my dress but opted not to preserve it at this time. But I figure, is it just a matter of putting it in a box and tossing in those little packets that say "do not eat"?
hawaii 10.2008 plan ;P married bio ???
my dress is currently hanging at my parents' house waiting to be cleaned. i did TTD pics in a swimming pool, so i know i should get the chlorine out, but i just can't bring myself to spend the $$$. i wonder if i should try the tide in bathtub method...
i asked a cleaner about what the difference is between cleaning and preserving. from her answer, it sounds like the only difference is that if you preserve it, they pack it in a box with acid-free materials.
