  • When I was 14 I worked at IHOP for a grand 3 days, it was horrible I wasn't even old enough to hardly do anything but we a hostess, and since I'm shy now I was REALLY shy then.  I was no good at it, and always got sent to the kitchen to roll silverware...

  • My first job out of college, my boss was just the worst thing ever.  He would ask for a report, then claim when I submitted it that he'd asked for something totally different.  I had a fair amount of responsibility and was involved in weekly planning meetings, and almost every week he'd ream me out in front of everybody else at the meeting over something that was completely beyond my control (things like raw material shortages that I couldn't do anything about, especially because there was only one supplier for this stuff in the world).  One night he made me stay until two in the morning to put together an extensive report that he swore up and down he'd asked me for earlier in the week, but he hadn't.  When I left that night, he refused to even walk me to my car.

I was too green to know to ask for all communication in writing and I was too chicken to stand up to him, but after the two-in-the-morning thing, I started looking for different jobs.  I quickly got an offer for a better job at a better company making better money.  My exit interview was awesome.  I told the HR person exactly why I was leaving.  I have no idea if what I told her ever caused any change to happen around there, but it felt really good to finally unload without fear of repercussions.

  • ugh.  In my same field - different business.  My boss wouldn't speak to me in person... she only allowed me "speak" to her via email.  I would walk up to her and ask her a simple question like "where do you want me to turn in my time sheet?".  She would get all frazzled and say "uhhhhh. Just email me".  Indifferent

Her communciation skills needed a bit of improvement. ConfusedI only worked there about 3 months before I started looking elsewhere.  I ended up staying the whole school year because I was young and felt obligated.  I was so glad to be done!

  • I worked at a bar- I was a cocktail waitress, with the occasional beer well duties. After about a year I had realized that I'd become a bitter b!tch that hated men and I needed to re-integrate myself into the real world.  (And I had a drinking problem. :/)  It took awhile after that job to recover- I still don't have very much trust in men I don't know.  It was fun times, though.  For sure.

  • I worked as a telemarketer in college for one whole day before quitting.  I went through the week of training which did no good at all, because the computer system wasn't the same.  Then half the time people couldn't hear me or I couldn't hear them because of all the noise in the room.  I broke down crying because nothing was working right, like it was it supposed to and in the end, I actually felt bad when I made a "sale" for that person.  So yeah, not cut out for that job at all.  I did learn how to properly ask a telemarketer how to take me off their list though!

  • I have a couple but they really weren't that bad.

I'm from Galveston and one summer when I was home from college I worked in a store geared towards tourists. We wore tank tops, shorts, and flip flops to work and the owners yelled at us for leaning on things because it was unprofessional. Um hello look at what our uniform is, aren't we supposed to be relaxed and laid back.

In college I worked at a clothing and accessory retail store. They based the schedule on performance. I thought I was doing pretty well but apparently my performance was not where they wanted it to be because one day I got my schedule and was not scheduled for an entire week. I called and they where like um well we schedule based on your performance and we didn't fell like you were performing well. It would have been nice of them to let me know before instead of just not putting me on the schedule out of the blue. Worst management ever.

  • I'm going to add to mine, only bc I am amused just remembering these things- the Sheriff that drinks "coffee" while holding up the bar had his coffee poured by the bartender.  ;)

I knew all of the regulars drinking habits and knew what was going on in their lives based on what they were drinking.

Everyone started off the shift pouring alcohol into whatever drink they brought in.  We drank off and on all night.  After work I would go to IHOP and eat mass amounts of food, then head back up to the bar to meet the bartenders wrapping up at 4am.  We would commence driking and watch the sun rise.  This was at east 3x/ week.

Everyone does drugs, but then they would all gossip about the others doing them.

When I think back to those days, it always feels like a previous life.

  • I worked the 6 PM to 6 AM shift at ARCH (the homeless shelter on 7th). That was mostly just sad (the clients) and entertaining (the people coming and going from 6th). I had a guy pull a knife on me once when I wouldn't let him in in the middle of the night. He was outside the door and I didn't have it open very far, so I was able to shut it quickly, thankfully.

I was also flashed by one of our regulars and only came to realize after the fact when another client told me that this other guy regular pleasured himself at night, that he always requested (and I happily and naively obliged) a certain bunk with a view of the desk I would sit at most of the night. That was not fun at all, but for the most part I really liked the guys there and it was a great job. It was only the other employees that were horrible.

LOL!  Well, actually, it's pretty easy, you just have to actually answer your phone and try to stop them from talking long enough to ask them to remove you from their list.  Just be persistent, they are supposed to do it, most people just don't know to ask!

Ok, that's what I do now. And if they call back again, then I get pissy :)
