Cuise??

Has anyone here cruised in and out of Miami? We've booked our anniversary trip in October, that docks back in Miami on Friday at 7AM.... would a 10:15 AM flight out of Miami be cutting it too close? I'm not sure how long it takes to unboard and get going.... I guess we'd have about an hour or so to get off the boat and get to the airport... is that realistic?

Re: Cuise??

  • DH and I went in and out of Tampa, but unloading was pretty easy for us. We got in line about an hour beforehand so we were at the beginning of the line (maybe 20 people in front of us). I would say it's doable if you get in line early and the airport is relatively close. We also drove so we didn't have to wait on a shuttle/taxi either.
  • we just got back from our first anniversary cruise this past saturday Big Smile.  we cruised in and out of miami on celebrity.  the ship docked at 7am, and i believe the ship orders the disembarkation according to guests travel plans.  we got off of the ship at 8am (i think in the first group), and had our bags and were on the shuttle back to the Ft. Lauderdale airport by probably 8:30.

i would think that you could make a 10am flight especially if you are flying out of MIA since it wouldn't be as long of a drive.

    have fun!

  • we've been on 4 cruises. before we went on our last cruise, i would've said a 1015 flight would've been pushing it but OK.

on our last cruise, we were stuck on the ship until 930 because some morons wouldn't go to the desk to clear customs (int'l guests). on average though, we have gotten off between 8-830, even when they knew we had an early flight.

miami is a PITA in my experience. honestly, i would say you need to book a later flight. it's not that far to the airport, but getting your bags (my suggestion is to just self-carry off the ship), through customs, etc. you're easily looking at 9am.

another thing too... you'll have to check in at the airport unless you're going to pay for internet time on the ship.

  • I agree with Uncharch.. I have been on a couple of cruises and yes the airport is fairly close, but like she said, if someone doesnt clear customs, that would hold you up from getting off the ship..Also, dont forget about going through security at the airport and walking to the terminal to catch the flight. I know when i booked my flight, they were saying come 90 mins before flight to leave to check in/security/ and to get to the terminal in time.. I am leaving out of Miami next month for a cruise myself and we chose a little later flight so we wouldnt have to rush through the airport.
  • Thanks for the replies ladies! We opted to take the 445 flight home instead. We could have left at 130 and had a stop in ATL, but either way we get home at 645.... so we'll spend a little time in Miami before heading back!
