OMG I am so mad! DH was rear-ended in High Point on Tuesday. He stopped at a red light and the kid didn't. He says that his brakes failed but who knows. Anyways the police report was done and the cop made sure the kid knew that the report stated it was his fault and he was responsible, etc, etc. Well the kid has yet to report it to his insurance company! We have called our insurance company who has in turn called his and he has yet to report it. So we are just waiting. Thank goodness the car is drivable and we have two carseats (DD was not in the car with him but carseats have to be replaced after any accident which his insurance company should pay for). How on earth can anyone be so irresponsible?!? When we had an accident last July (it was our fault) we opened the claim from the scene (which is what I would have asked the kid to do had I been there...DH is too nice). I am just so mad. Our insurance co told us that we could go ahead and get the car fixed and they would pay yet we would be required to pay deductible and then we would wait on his insurance to pay them/us back. Um heck no! I just don't get it at all. Our agent says that he can take as long as he wants to file (even though there would be repercussions). DH asked if I wanted to call and I said no b/c at this point I would just be a b!tch. Someone please tell me to breath....
Re: I am fuming
I don't really have any advice. I just wanted to say I'm sorry that you guys are having to deal with this. I would be just as upset.
I hope this kid realizes that by putting it off, he's making it much worse.
Oh geez. I'm so sorry! That's completely irresponsible of the kid.
When you say 'kid' are you referrering to someone like in Highschool or just a younger person? Something like this happend to an old friend and it was a highschooler that hit them. The kid told their parents they weren't responsible so the parents never called the insurance company.
After about a week my friend called the kids parents and explained everything and that the cop said it was completely the kids fault, they soon after called the insurance company.
Reason for telling you that : if it was a kid, I might try to call the parents, but I understand why you haven't. I'd be a complete B!tch if it were me.
Good Luck! I hope it all gets fixed up soon!
Accident Queen here. I have called the other persons insurance to get the ball rolling. The only thing that would hold it up is getting his statement, which they will hound him for.
The last accident I had the person gave false insurance information. The Nationwide rep looked up the correct policy number and gave me the insurance companys name. Still a horrible experience but I got it done.
Kid = 19 years old
I agree with Terp.
I'd get it over with sooner rather than later because I'd lose sleep from the rage.
Very glad to hear your DH is safe and sound and that the car is still OK.
