Hi, my name is Elaine. I've posted/responded a few times but never formally introduced myself. Hubby and I got married at Lani in Oahu on 11/10/09. I'm predominantly a lurker, and sometimes feel a little too shy to get involved with the posts, but I hope that will change soon. I love reading about how everyone is adjusting to married life, pregnant life, life with kids, and all of the other funny, random topics that tend to pop up. You ladies are a wonderful support group for each other, for anything and everything, and that is so awesome!!!
Okay, here is my question. How long did it take you to receive your wedding video. It's been over 6 months since we got married, and we still do not have it or even a tentative time that it will be done. I emailed the videographer a couple weeks after the target time proposed in the contract (which was over 2 months ago), and he hadn't even started it yet. We used the same guy that ecearna used, but I hesitate to mention his name/company. He's had some issues with a house fire, but I'm beginning to wonder if he just keeps using that as an excuse. His house burned down in 2008! I don't want to be petty, but if recovering from the house fire is still interfering with his work, should he really be accepting new brides/clients, if he can't meet the deadlines stated in the contract? I don't want to harass or upset him, since he still has to work on the video, but am I being unreasonably impatient, even though I've given him an extra 2 months? My last email to him was on 3/17, and he never responded.
Please be honest and tell me if I'm overreacting. I don't really know how long it's supposed to take, but if this is the normal waiting time, I will try to be more patient. Thanks for letting me vent.
Re: Really late intro and a question
First, hi and welcome - stick around and post more
I think you have been beyond reasonable, especially since he has quit responding but I understand your hesitation about "pestering" him since he does still have to edit your video and you want him to do a good job.
Ours (HVM on Maui) took about 2 months. I remember because we were married 4.2 and flew out to our AHR in DH's hometown over Memorial Day weekend (must have been end of May) and we didn't have the video yet but when we returned it was waiting for us in the mailbox!
GL!
Thanks Ericka, that's good advice. Now I just have to get the courage to make that call
BTW, I love keeping up with you and the bebeh blog
hello! it took us probably 6 or 7 months to get our video, but one of the 2 main ppl at the company was out sick for months starting right before our wedding, so I tried to be understanding. and they were very responsive the entire time, i was never worried that they wouldn't follow through. i'd definitely try giving your videographer a call! let us know how it goes, and good luck.
ETA: we had only paid <= 50% of the total cost of the video before the wedding, with the other 50% due upon delivery - so that also helped me feel better that they wouldn't bail on us. it still would have sucked if they did, since we'd be without the video, but at least i wouldn't have lost the entire payment! not sure if you've paid for the entire thing up front?
Elaine, funny you should post this because I'm sort of having the same issue. I got married a couple of weeks after you and don't have our video yet. I used the same company as Sandra and right now I was told the delay is because one of the main people has been sick. It must be something serious since she has been sick on and off since the time Sandra got married... Anyway, the company has been extremely apologetic and has kept in touch saying that it's almost done. I paid in full at the wedding so hopefully something is actually being put together. I hope we get the video soon and that it is too our satisfaction. We've waited for a long time so it better be flawless!
It took...OMG how sad is this, I can't even remember! I don't think it was that long - maybe a month? - for us to get our edited video. I think it sounds like you've been very reasonable and patient up until this point!
Oh, and welcome to the board!
Oh, thank you :-). Glad to "see" you around here. Hopefully at the Bump board soon? ;-). Hope all is well.
Go call. You got nothing to lose. Tell him I said hi ;-).
ohhh
I'm sorry, that really sucks. yeah, it did sound like it was pretty serious - she couldn't get out of bed for a long time. but i hope you get your video soon! i've been looking forward to seeing it! hopefully they're not taking new engagements, if this is still a problem 2 years later!
Okay, I think you're right. I've been patient, so my next move is to give him a call.
Just yesterday, we got together with our DOC because she flew into town and contacted us at the last minute. We told her our concerns about our wedding video and she shared a horror story that some of her brides are going through. Apparently, 4 or 5 brides used the same photog, but none of them have received their wedding photos almost a year later. I guess the guy got into a really bad car accident, and his wife had tried to find out which brides were still waiting for their pictures to let them know. She sounded sincere enough when she was trying to inform them of the situation, but now, he's dropped off the face of the earth, and nobody can get in touch with him or find him.
I'm really crossing my fingers that our situation won't have the same outcome, but that story did really scare me. I can't imagine what those girls/couples are going through. To pay for your wedding photos upfront, and then not have any solid memories of your wedding day??? I don't any of their names, but I'll pray and send good vibes out to them.
