In my attempt to be a better Nestie, here goes another poll... hopefully this topic hasn't been discussed recently.
1) What kinds of magazines do you like to read?
2) What magazines do you subscribe to and why? If you don't have any subscriptions, which magazines would you like to subscribe to?
3) What do you think about magazine subscriptions as gifts? Yay or nay and why?
4) When you are standing in line at the grocery store, do you read the mags on the racks? If so, is it the headlines or the cover photos that attract your attention?
5) Any magazine guilty pleasures? (Not the porn kind, silly)
6) And finally, what did you do with all your bridal magazines?
Re: Magazines
ooh, i love magazines, but haven't really been subscribing post-wedding. nothing has been really exciting me, so i'm excited to see what other ppl say!
1) What kinds of magazines do you like to read?
i used to love met home - so sad it's gone. martha stewart weddings was favorite for a long time, but doesn't interest me anymore post-wedding. ...i subscribed to lucky and domino for a year, but never loved them. in high school, i subscribed to in style forever, but again, no longer interested anymore.
2) What magazines do you subscribe to and why? If you don't have any subscriptions, which magazines would you like to subscribe to?
right now, my only subscription is to real simple, which i got for $5 due to a deal kalani posted! but i haven't really gotten into it
i'll probably start subscribing to 1-2 parenting magazines (any recs?)
3) What do you think about magazine subscriptions as gifts? Yay or nay and why?
i got harvard business review and forbes as gifts one year (they were both on my wishlist), which i appreciated, since HBR in particular is ridiculously expensive - i would have never gotten it for myself. nor would i have gotten forbes (i prefer guilty pleasures, haha), but i felt like i *should* read it, so i appreciated it.
4) When you are standing in line at the grocery store, do you read the mags on the racks? If so, is it the headlines or the cover photos that attract your attention?
yes of course! all the photos and crazy headlines catch my eye. i don't often flip through them though, just read the covers.
5) Any magazine guilty pleasures? (Not the porn kind, silly)
nope, but i'd love to have some!
6) And finally, what did you do with all your bridal magazines?
gave them to a friend, and/or they're still sitting around somewhere. actually, i'm not sure...i know i recycled a ton my friend had passed to me.eta: I've also been wanting to get cooking light and/or cook's illustrated. and how could i have forgotten to mention - i read people at the gym, haha. makes the time on the treadmill go by a lot faster!

gave them to a friend, and/or they're still sitting around somewhere. actually, i'm not sure...i know i recycled a ton my friend had passed to me.1) What kinds of magazines do you like to read?
Occassionally I still read wedding mags, but mostly I enjoy fashion, women's health, cooking, celebrity gossip mags and home decor (West Elm, Williams Sonoma, Crate and Barrel, etc.).
2) What magazines do you subscribe to and why? If you don't have any subscriptions, which magazines would you like to subscribe to?
I subscribe to a bunch - InStyle, Food Network, Essence, US Weekly, People Style Watch, Fitness
3) What do you think about magazine subscriptions as gifts? Yay or nay and why?
I think they are a great idea - I have given them to friends before and they loved it.
4) When you are standing in line at the grocery store, do you read the mags on the racks? If so, is it the headlines or the cover photos that attract your attention?
I sometimes read the magazines. Pictures attract me to the magazine but then it's the headlines that make me actually pick it up and start flipping through it.
5) Any magazine guilty pleasures? (Not the porn kind, silly)
I really do love US Weekly. It's the most expensive magazine subscription that I have but it's much cheaper than buying it off the rack every week. I gotta stay on top of my celebrity gossip. I usually even look at people.com at least once a day!
6) And finally, what did you do with all your bridal magazines?
I had a ton of bridal magazines but after we got back from the honeymoon our apt was a mess and I dumped them all. I randomly get one of those destination wedding magazines in the mail every so often and I still enjoy reading them.
1) What kinds of magazines do you like to read?
Everything from home decor to news to gossip to cooking.
2) What magazines do you subscribe to and why? If you don't have any subscriptions, which magazines would you like to subscribe to?
Vanity Fair for the articles, columns and photos. I recently discovered Clean Eating which I find helpful for quick and fresh recipes and meal planning tips.
3) What do you think about magazine subscriptions as gifts? Yay or nay and why?
I like giving them and receiving them
Magazines are something I find hard to spend money on for myself. Not sure why, just do.
4) When you are standing in line at the grocery store, do you read the mags on the racks? If so, is it the headlines or the cover photos that attract your attention?
Hell yes. It's usually the photo that gets my attention and then the headlines draw me in. I usually go for Martha, Real SImple or Us Weekly. The hubby goes for the recipe booklets, lol!
5) Any magazine guilty pleasures? (Not the porn kind, silly)
Us Weekly. Such trash yet soooo fun to read. Anyone else notice that the Hawaii stands are over a week late on a regular basis? I cancelled my Us Weekly because it would arrive two weeks late and everything in it was old news by the time I got it!
6) And finally, what did you do with all your bridal magazines?
I was one of the last of my friends to get married so I inherited all of theirs. Plus, I had been subscribing to MS Weddings from many moons ago when I was an event planner. I had stacks and stacks and stacks. Regrettably, they are now sitting in a Maui landfill since there wasn't a way to recycle them here when I tossed them.
1) What kinds of magazines do you like to read?
I don't read a lot of magazines. The only subscription we have is NatGeo, though I do buy People at the grocery store sometimes. In the past I had a lot more, but I find it difficult to keep up with them, and then they'd just sit there until I threw them away. I'd feel guilty about wasting the money and the unnecessary trash.
2) What magazines do you subscribe to and why? If you don't have any subscriptions, which magazines would you like to subscribe to?
Like I said, just NatGeo
3) What do you think about magazine subscriptions as gifts? Yay or nay and why?
If you know the person likes it and will read it, I think it's a great gift. The gift that keeps on giving!
4) When you are standing in line at the grocery store, do you read the mags on the racks? If so, is it the headlines or the cover photos that attract your attention?
Usually the photos. This is really the only time I read magazines!
5) Any magazine guilty pleasures? (Not the porn kind, silly)
Like I said, People (such a guilty pleasure!)
6) And finally, what did you do with all your bridal magazines?
Honestly, I only had three. I initially thought I'd enjoy them more, but I actually found them overwhelming and somewhat depressing. Our wedding was beautiful, but we were definitely on a budget, and I found that the magazines gave me too many ideas that I would never be able to afford, so I stopped buying them. I also bought my dress very early on, and seeing all those dresses was giving me anxiety about my choice, so no more!
1) What kinds of magazines do you like to read?
I guess home/women's mags
2) What magazines do you subscribe to and why? If you don't have any subscriptions, which magazines would you like to subscribe to?
too many! Oprah & Real Simple are my favs. I got House Beautiful, Better Homes & Gardens, Body & Soul, MS Everyday Food all for free from MyCokeRewards. I think I will probably only keep B&S from the free bunch. I am not crazy about the other trials subscriptions.
3) What do you think about magazine subscriptions as gifts? Yay or nay and why? I gave my grandma National Geographic once for Christmas. She seemed to like it & I like that it is a gift that keeps giving all year. (I wrapped one issue I bought at the store with the card from NatGeo saying she had a year for free)
4) When you are standing in line at the grocery store, do you read the mags on the racks? If so, is it the headlines or the cover photos that attract your attention? I do read while waiting in line, usually just to see the pictures
5) Any magazine guilty pleasures? (Not the porn kind, silly) hmmm...I don't think so. I don't subscribe to People or anything like that.
6) And finally, what did you do with all your bridal magazines? All of the generic wedding mags, I gave to my sister who actually got married exactly one day shy of my 1 year anniversary. All of the Pacific Wedding mags I still have & don't know what to do with them. I could recycle them but I think they would be better served if I could pass them along to another bride or donate them...something!!
1) What kinds of magazines do you like to read? Gossip, fashion, home decor, fitness mags
2) What magazines do you subscribe to and why? If you don't have any subscriptions, which magazines would you like to subscribe to?
When I was single, I used to subscribe to Cosmopolitan. I then switched to Fitness. Since I am preggers, I did not renew that and got Fit Pregnancy instead. I currently get Good Housekeeping (got as a gift) which I love. I may subscribe to some Parenting magzines too.
3) What do you think about magazine subscriptions as gifts? Yay or nay and why?
Yay only if the gift giver knows the person very well and know which magazine he/she would enjoy.
4) When you are standing in line at the grocery store, do you read the mags on the racks? If so, is it the headlines or the cover photos that attract your attention?
Yes, mostly the gossip magazines..US Weekly, People, etc. The headlines/photos catch my attention.
5) Any magazine guilty pleasures? (Not the porn kind, silly)
Gossip mags which I read while in the gym or when im at the doc's office. I'll never buy spend money and buy them for myself.
6) And finally, what did you do with all your bridal magazines?
I may given some to a friend. Others, I may have thrown away/recycled.1) What kinds of magazines do you like to read? home and cooking.
2) What magazines do you subscribe to and why? If you don't have any subscriptions, which magazines would you like to subscribe to? Sunset (DH and I both read this one). Better Homes and Gardens and my mom got me a gift subscription to Mothering. I used to get Seattle metropolitan as a gift but let it lapse because I don't actually live in Seattle... I also get Parenting as a free gift from somewhere, even though I tried to always send back the rebate from diapers.com or whatever they still caught me. hah.
3) What do you think about magazine subscriptions as gifts? Yay or nay and why? yes, I think it's a great treat.
4) When you are standing in line at the grocery store, do you read the mags on the racks? If so, is it the headlines or the cover photos that attract your attention? oh yes. If I'm shopping by myself I purposely pick the longest line to give me more time to read. Both headlines and pictures attract me. I usually read People or one of the local Seattle magazines if the topic looks like something I want to know (best breakfast places/pizza/etc). A couple of weeks ago our friend was in People magazine and I almost bought it just to show DH but instead just told him to read it the next time he was at the grocery.
5) Any magazine guilty pleasures? (Not the porn kind, silly) not really unless you count reading in the checkout line.
6) And finally, what did you do with all your bridal magazines? I only ever bought the MS Weddings. I put them in the free box at the library.
1) What kinds of magazines do you like to read?
Currently....travel, food, women's/lifestyle, and parenting
2) What magazines do you subscribe to and why? If you don't have any subscriptions, which magazines would you like to subscribe to?
We have several coming to the house...Oprah, Food&Wine, Budget Travel, Parents, AmericanBaby, Redbook, Women's Day, Good Housekeeping and Cooking Light...DH likes the cooking ones, I got the parenting ones when I got my BFP and my mom and I like the women's ones.
DH was recently gifted Smithsonian, so that comes now and we just canceled Classical Singer Magazine since we're no longer singing. I want to subscribe to Clean Eating and Mothering. Will probably not renew Budget Travel since we don't have time or money to travel right now anyway. My mom was getting More magazine but just let the subscription lapse.
3) What do you think about magazine subscriptions as gifts? Yay or nay and why?
Yay...it's a gift that keeps giving...and you can get them for a good deal sometimes...I got DH's "Food&Wine" for $5 on Amazon at Christmastime.
4) When you are standing in line at the grocery store, do you read the mags on the racks? If so, is it the headlines or the cover photos that attract your attention?
I usually look at the tabloids like OK, People, Life&Style, etc.
5) Any magazine guilty pleasures? (Not the porn kind, silly)
See #4.
6) And finally, what did you do with all your bridal magazines?
Um...I think I gave most of them away and recycled the rest.

1) What kinds of magazines do you like to read? I'm bad... I read the gossip magazines as my guilty pleasure. I like to read People and Us Magazine. Also, I read Real Simple, Clean Eating and sometimes fitness magazines.
2) What magazines do you subscribe to and why? If you don't have any subscriptions, which magazines would you like to subscribe to? My dad continues to buy me subscriptions to People magazine. I like it for the gossip, the outfits and most of all, the crossword puzzles. They make me feel smart.
Also, I personally subscribe to Real Simple magazine. I love all their tips and ideas.
3) What do you think about magazine subscriptions as gifts? Yay or nay and why? I think they can be great depending on the person. I always wanted a People magazine subscription, especially when I was traveling a lot, so when my dad got it, I was very thankful. If you know the person well enough, it can be a good gift.
4) When you are standing in line at the grocery store, do you read the mags on the racks? If so, is it the headlines or the cover photos that attract your attention? Yup, all the time. Drives MH nuts. Its usually a mix of the headlines and cover photos... but its almost always the weekly trashy magazine of Us or In Touch cause I rarely ever buy those.
5) Any magazine guilty pleasures? (Not the porn kind, silly) People magazine is my guilty pleasure. I know it doesn't have much substance but I love it every single week.
6) And finally, what did you do with all your bridal magazines? Whew there were many of them... since I basically destroyed them with cutting out ideas and ripping out pictures, I recycled all of them.
1) What kinds of magazines do you like to read? I love reading celebrity gossip magazines. Trashy, I know but I can't help myself.
2) What magazines do you subscribe to and why? If you don't have any subscriptions, which magazines would you like to subscribe to? Don't subscribe to any right now due to cutting back on the budget but I would love to get a scrip to People. It's just so expensive!
3) What do you think about magazine subscriptions as gifts? Yay or nay and why? I would LOVE to get a script as a gift. It's one of those things that I just hate to spend money on myself but enjoy so much in my down time.
4) When you are standing in line at the grocery store, do you read the mags on the racks? If so, is it the headlines or the cover photos that attract your attention? I don't actually flip them open and start reading them but I do attack the headlines. Again, it's the celebrity gossip whore in me.
5) Any magazine guilty pleasures? (Not the porn kind, silly) Just celebrity gossip. It's because of me that celebrities are getting divorced and go crazy. I am sorry Mr. and Mrs. Celebrity, I really am. Please try to be less interesting and beautiful!
6) And finally, what did you do with all your bridal magazines? We don't have options to recycle magazines much around here so sadly, I tossed most of them. I allowed myself to keep three for reminicing...
1) What kinds of magazines do you like to read?
You name it - I get it. No joke, I probably have close to 17 subscriptions. Crazy huh? Most of them I get free for filling out these surveys through this internet site I belong to. We have everything gossip crap, auto, house, cooking, traveling, men's mags, etc.....My faves are People and Real Simple.
2) What magazines do you subscribe to and why? If you don't have any subscriptions, which magazines would you like to subscribe to?
See above. I love getting them all because they pass the time for me on the tread mill. That's really the only time I have time for them.
3) What do you think about magazine subscriptions as gifts? Yay or nay and why?
I love giving them as gifts. Real Simple seems to be a favorite with my friends so I've given that a few times to some of my friends when I have known they like it but don't have.
4) When you are standing in line at the grocery store, do you read the mags on the racks? If so, is it the headlines or the cover photos that attract your attention?
Sometimes I glance, but typically I get one of them in the mail, so no need to look over too soon.
5) Any magazine guilty pleasures? (Not the porn kind, silly)
I love US Magazine, Maxim, and I really do enjoy the articles in Playboy.
6) And finally, what did you do with all your bridal magazines?
Recycle bin!
1) What kinds of magazines do you like to read? Gossip mags, cooking, health/fitness, women's
2) What magazines do you subscribe to and why? If you don't have any subscriptions, which magazines would you like to subscribe to? Taste of Healthy Cooking is all I have now and I got it as a gift. I plan to get several subscriptions for my salon though.
3) What do you think about magazine subscriptions as gifts? Yay or nay and why? I love 'em! I'd have never got the subscription to Taste of Healthy Cooking on my own, even though I'd totally steal my mom's copies when I'd visit her. We also just got my dad a subscription to Armchair General - he's got everything he needs and he didn't even know the mag existed, and he loves it.
4) When you are standing in line at the grocery store, do you read the mags on the racks? If so, is it the headlines or the cover photos that attract your attention? Absolutely! Sometimes it's the headlines, sometimes it's the photos.
5) Any magazine guilty pleasures? (Not the porn kind, silly) I looooove People (at one time I actually used some Hawaiian Airline miles to get a subscription) and US Weekly.
6) And finally, what did you do with all your bridal magazines? Tossed them. I actually stopped reading them about 8 months before the wedding. Once I had everything booked/purchased I didn't care any more.
