Re: Friday Fitness Check In
1. How much did you workout this week and what did you do for fitness? I only worked out 3 times this week, however, I did a hard Crossfit workout that left me in pain for 2 days - it was pretty bad. I did Crossfit one of the days, eliptical on the other days.
2. Any achievements? Any downfalls? I did a Crossfit workout - which was an achievement because it's been hard to get back into it lately. Downfalls - didn't work out as much as I want and I'm still having a hard time finding motivation, especially in the morning.
3. What are your weekly goals? What is your long term goal (i.e what are you working towards, what are you trying to reach, etc)? Weekly: workout about 5 times a week, doing Crossfit and running (I need to get back into running). Long-term: to feel comfortable with my body and ultimately better my athletic ability - both strength and endurance wise.
4. Along with the above question, what do you use as your motivation? A picture? A date/event? Etc? Right now I am trying to use my semi-annual physical fitness test as motivation but not even that is motivating me right now. I'm also trying to use summer as a motivation but Germany's summers aren't very hot or sunny so that's not working for me either. I tend to use women I see in magazines or the Crossfit website that look amazing and physically fit.
5. What is one piece of fitness-related equipment or gear you can't live without? I would have to say either my iPod (for runs - along with the Nike + runner thingy).
6. What types of questions or topics would you like to see in the future? N/A
1. How much did you workout this week and what did you do for fitness? Remember, I'm just a beginner. I didn't do much, but I did do a little walking. Also, I have vowed no McDonald's for 6 months. Started in April, so it's been about 6 wks.
2. Any achievements? Any downfalls? Downfall: want to plan to do my walks at least 2x/wk to start with.
3. What are your weekly goals? What is your long term goal (i.e what are you working towards, what are you trying to reach, etc)? See above. I just want to tone and get stronger cardiovascularly.
4. Along with the above question, what do you use as your motivation? A picture? A date/event? Etc? Looking at my little pooch is my motivation!
Plus, it doesn't feel good to huff and puff going up a single flight of stairs.
5. What is one piece of fitness-related equipment or gear you can't live without? n/a
6. What types of questions or topics would you like to see in the future? Info and help for the beginner.
I finally found some motiviation ... so I can play now
1. How much did you workout this week and what did you do for fitness? I just joined a gym last week and swam twice.
2. Any achievements? Any downfalls? Joining a gym was the big achievement.
3. What are your weekly goals? What is your long term goal (i.e what are you working towards, what are you trying to reach, etc)? So far, I'm telling myself to swim 2-3 times a week for 25-30 minutes but no other set weekly goals. Eventually I want to alternate swimming with the elliptical machine. I don't know how to use the weight machines but I'm hoping to learn. Longterm, I'm hoping to be in better shape overall, starting out with the pool is easiest for me.
4. Along with the above question, what do you use as your motivation? A picture? A date/event? Etc? My mirror and my pants. I want to be a little more comfortable when I have to look in the mirror trying when I try on clothes in a store. Right now I dread dressing room mirrors - I won't even look until my butt is covered with what ever I'm trying on. Pants - I just want them to be a little looser - no struggle with the buttons yet, but I would love to go down one pants size. Is it obvious that I have yet to get on a scale?
5. What is one piece of fitness-related equipment or gear you can't live without? N/A
6. What types of questions or topics would you like to see in the future? Any tips or topics are appreciated.
Kalani - good on you for getting started and giving up McDonalds for 6 months (believe me, I know how hard that can be)
SnarlingFox - welcome back!!! And nice with the swimming - that's something I definitely wish I did. I love the water and swimming is such good exercise.
Good for both of you for starting and finding motivation (I need to find more motivation to get my butt back in gear).
Thanks for the topic suggestions... I'll work on getting some stuff for next week.
1. How much did you workout this week and what did you do for fitness? I'm ashamed to say that so far this morning was all I've worked out this week. I took at Body Pump class this morning.
2. Any achievements? Any downfalls? Achievements....well, getting to class at 5:30am was a definite achievement! Downfalls....I am in a Biggest Loser competition at my gym (we do it twice a year) and we have weekly challenges where we earn points for our team. I haven't earned ONE point this week. My schedule and the gym's schedule are way out of sync right now, but I will fix that!
3. What are your weekly goals? What is your long term goal (i.e what are you working towards, what are you trying to reach, etc)? Weekly goal? This week? I don't have one. Next week I will go to the gym at least 3 times. My long term goal is just overall fitness. I want to be in better shape, slim down, and not feel like I'm going to die whenever I exert myself.
4. Along with the above question, what do you use as your motivation? A picture? A date/event? Etc? All I have to do is look at my upper thighs....that is motivation. Blech.
5. What is one piece of fitness-related equipment or gear you can't live without? Heart rate monitor
6. What types of questions or topics would you like to see in the future? Not sure, but I'll mull it over.
1. How much did you workout this week and what did you do for fitness? I worked out ZERO times this week. I have been sick and whenever I exert myself I have a huge couging fit.
2. Any achievements? Any downfalls? I now have a few days of antibiotics in me so I plan to just move forward from last week and workout 4 days next week - Yoga being one of my workouts
3. What are your weekly goals? What is your long term goal (i.e what are you working towards, what are you trying to reach, etc)? My weekly goal is to just workout all my planned workouts for the week. My long term goal is just be healthy, keep my blood pressure down (as of Monday I'm 110/90...that bottom number is not so good), keep my anxiety at bay and not get winded anytime I exert myself.
4. Along with the above question, what do you use as your motivation? A picture? A date/event? Etc? I had put a bunch of Maui pictures that I blew up and framed in our home gym. Looking at the beach is motivation to keep going for me
5. What is one piece of fitness-related equipment or gear you can't live without? Like Amy, my heart moniter. I hate if I forget to wear it, I feel like I don't get a good workout in. It helps me focus and know if I need to work harder or less hard.
6. What types of questions or topics would you like to see in the future? n/a...right now anyway

Oh yay! Can I play?
1. How much did you workout this week and what did you do for fitness?
So far I've only done 3 days, but plan on leaving the house in like 45 min to go again and then I will go once over the weekend as well. This week, I've just been running. I run like 4.5-5.0 miles each time.
2. Any achievements? Any downfalls?
I am FINALLY seeing results on the scale. Keep in mind, I started back at the gym in October. I'm sure there were results in my clothing loosening up but the scale tells me alot. I also keep getting better on my times, so that's good. Downfall would be the crap food I have ate this week!
3. What are your weekly goals? What is your long term goal (i.e what are you working towards, what are you trying to reach, etc)?
Weekly goals would be to get to running 18 miles a week. Long term goals are to lose 20 lbs by Sept. Its definitely do-able and I decided this time around that my goals needed to be realistic. I've lost 8 so I still have a ways to go. After that, my goals will be 10 lb increments. Another goal is to run a 1/2 marathon one day.
4. Along with the above question, what do you use as your motivation? A picture? A date/event? Etc?
Motivation is definitely seeing the scale move. My hubby is motivating too. The dude gets to the gym every morning at 5am. And never complains. I would like to get back to my wedding weight by Sept.
5. What is one piece of fitness-related equipment or gear you can't live without?
I love my Nike shoes. I need a heart monitor though.
6. What types of questions or topics would you like to see in the future?
Amy - how/what is the Body Pump class? I have read comments on Facebook but don't know anything about it.
Lindsay - your Maui photos are a great idea for motivation! I've been meaning to comment on your *not so new* siggy pic. Great photo and I love the dress!
Adpilove - nice job on the running! I miss running but I lost almost my entire running group and with it went my motivation (plus I'm still waiting for the Germany weather to get warmer - I'm a wimp, I know). A half-marathon is definitely in your future... just gotta find a fun/good one. And ditto on the hubby who goes to the gym every single morning at 5 am. I try to latch on to his motivation... guess I have to try a little harder.
1. How much did you workout this week and what did you do for fitness? Monday - spin
Tues - none
Wed - weights (arms/legs/shoulders)
Thurs - yoga
Friday - spin
Tomorrow, Saturday, I plan to walk around the National mall while DH has his flag football game and then pre-natal yoga on Sunday.
2. Any achievements? Any downfalls?
I think I am doing ok with my workouts. My downfall is eating. Since I am pregnant, I am constantly hungry :-/. I don't eat bad but I eat a lot so that's still extra calories lol.
3. What are your weekly goals? What is your long term goal (i.e what are you working towards, what are you trying to reach, etc)?
Next week, my goal is to stick to high fiber diet. I have been eating mostly protein rich diet and very low fiber :-/ I got to change that up.
Long term girl is to stay on track with my weight gain. I am still on track for a healthy weight gain. I am suppose to gain +1lb a week! Eeek!
4. Along with the above question, what do you use as your motivation? A picture? A date/event? Etc?
The bebeh in my tummeh :-P. I want to be fit and healthy for my sake and bebeh's sake.
5. What is one piece of fitness-related equipment or gear you can't live without? My heart rate monitor. It is important that my heart rate does not go too high. I try to keep it below 160.
6. What types of questions or topics would you like to see in the future?
1. M - Jillian, T - Jump rope, - W - Jillian, TH - Jump Rope, F- Jillian.
Fridays are usually my day off and then I do something on the weekend, but my weekend is booked so I must do my video today.
2. I finally tried Level 2 on Jillian's 30-day shred. I'd been doing Level 1 for the past month, and thought I should step it up. Man, it's hard and makes you sweat! My thighs have been sore all week!
Another achievement would be that I didn't take Wed. off. I came home really tired from work, and really didn't want to do my workout. But I fought myself and did it anyway. It's small things like that that make me proud.
3. Weekly goal is to lose 2 pounds. Last week I only lost one, but I think this week since I stepped up the fitness I'll meet it.
Long term goal is to lose about 30 pounds. I'm trying to get to 137 for my weight since that seems to be my happy weight. I've lost 12 pounds so far, and I've been doing this for 5 weeks, so I'm getting there! The second part is to lower my cholesterol by Oct. I think that will be met since I've changed my eating habits as well.
4. I tend to lose motivation very easily. So I try to document everything to help myself see that results are happening. I keep a diary of what I ate and how much exercise I did each day. I have an app on my phone that helps me with this. Every Saturday I take my picture in the same clothes, and take my weight and measurements and then keep those on my computer. It makes it easier to actually see that I'm losing inches and my body is changing.
5. Hmm, that's hard. For my current routine maybe a jump rope, or tv/dvd player since I need that. And weights. Yeah, that's right I picked more than one.
6. I like these ?s!
kalani-yay for getting started and way to go on giving up mcdonalds-so important for your health and the environement-meat and fast food are so very unsustainble-so I am here in cyber space cheering you on(then again i am an off bird have never had fast food before with the exception of some french fries) if you have any exercise questions i am more than happy to share my knowledge with you
snarling fox-yay for joining a gym
erica-kudos to you for exercising while pregnant
1. I am in NY so my workout schedule got tweaked-however at least i have been walking here so at least that's a plus otherwise i only did 3 insanity workouts this week and no surfing. may have to do an extra week of insanity.
2. feeling stronger through my insane workouts. downfalls new york trip and no surfing due to a skin biopsy.
3. i want to be fit and strong and healthy as way of life. the vanity part is freaked out about turning 40 and hoping i can head into my 40s with a 20 something year old's body-i know so terribly vain and shallow-but 40 is a real challenge fore me.
4. am a total clothes horse so if i go above a size 6 generally i am a 2/4 but european brands run smaller-then no shopping and MAJOR dieting-also as a beach girl i see a lot of bikini shots so that's another motivator.
5. cant live without my surfboards, foam roller, and insanity work outs-sorry thats three
6. hmm will get back to you-maybe nutrition questions
Body Pump is amazing. It's part of the Les Mills programs - a New Zealand based fitness company. It's a strength training class that has totally changed my body. It's an hour and you go through 10 tracks, each one that works a different body part. I keep meaning to count how many squats we have to do since it's an insane number I'm sure, but I can't count and focus at the same time!
