Bedroom help

So our bedroom sucks, we painted the walls white when moved in because they were awful brown and red colors. That's it, we haven't done anything else. We have my old oak bedroom set (well minus the bed because it's GIANT) so I was thinking of painting it or something, so tired of the oak! ANyhow, we're wanting to spice it up, think sexy :) I'd love some fun colors and something more romantic (no flowers or nothing too girly, DH wouldn't approve). Any ideas??

Re: Bedroom help

  • What's your general decorating style? Modern or shabby chic or ???

Color wise, I'm really loving the trend toward grays right now - I know that doesn't sound fun, but the right shade of gray on the wall with lots of yellow or aqua around the room is a fab combination - fun and modern at the same time, and can be romantic too! Like these shades (ignore the styling of the rooms, I'm just talking about the colors):

  • I'm no help but I'm right there with you with looking for bedroom inspiration.  Biggest problem is where to put all our clothes.  German homes have NO - that's right NO - closets.
  • We also have oak furniture in our bedroom.  I can't PIP right now, but the walls are a rich cobalt blue, and we have all fluffy white bedding and a white futon in the corner.  The bed and futon have tons of big throw pillows in blue, red, and golden yellow.  It's almost nautical, but not exactly (there's nothing actually nautical, but the color scheme kind of is).  I find the room to be very refreshing and light (I adore white bedding with pops of color only in the throw pillows).

  • How about painting the walls a soft aqua and painting the oak furniture a matte black?  Then you could do a white duvet or a damask print and add pops of red or coral for impact.

Or keep it calm with pale aqua, silver, white and black:

Or leave the walls white and paint the furniture matte black:

Personally, I love color in the bedroom and have wanted to go with a Morrocan design:

  • imageI personally love grey and you could even add an accent wall which will give it a pop of color and a dramatic feel.image

  • Lisa, I love the colors in the second one! Do you remember the colors at our wedding? Ocean blue- we have that painted in our livign room, one wall and we have black leather furniture. Bright green (like Malia's) we have one wall in our kitchen area painted that color... If only I knew how to PIP...

I'm not into the thing over the bed in the first pic but I LOVE those colors! I love the second one too. I've been really wanted to do purples in there but it has to be manly too. The first picture has some purple but the red makes it fiery and HOT :) As in sexy time! I love the oranges though too. we only have some orange in the guest bedroom, which will eventually change and be the next baby's room whenever that happens... Where did you guys find all these pics? I guess I just need to look more. I feel like I'm always hunting the D&R board here but haven't really found much that I love, until you ladies posted!

Yeah, I am not into the canopies either, but I like the exotic colors and fabrics.  Right now our bedroom is sort of tropical...we have dark wood and framed photos of Kauai landscapes.  Our duvet is a chocolate ground print with bright tropical (abstract-ish) flowers and foliage in lime green, orange, turquoise, yellow and coral.  The reverse side is the same except on a white background.  We have orange accent pillows and throw rugs in the same colors as the duvet, yet more muted/toned down.  And we have bamboo lamps on our night stands.

It's not so fabulous now that we have Libby's co-sleeper in there as well as a bunch of Joseph's school stuff.  I'll see if I can find one that I took before it was all jumbled up...

As for inspiration pics...I love to Google or use Yahoo! to search images.

Our room finally doesn't have baby stuff in there :) It took about 7 months or so but now it's all ours again. You'll get there, but for now enjoy it! My LO is 10 months old today and she wants to be on the floor and moving unless she's eating :)

This is actually my inspiration photo that I have been using for our MB since we have all black furniture.  I painted our MB Silvermist from Sherwin Williams (almost like color shown).  I'm almost there, just need to get some pics put in those big frames and change up my lamps.  I love the more calming and serene feel the blue brings to the room.  I don't have any pics in my bio otherwise I would show you, but hopefully soon I will have some updated pics in it since I have actually done a lot to our entire home since I created it.

    GL! :)
