Getting ready to transplant tomatoes
This is my first shot at gardening and I'm surprised how well everything has gone so far! I started tomatoes (and bell peppers) from seeds and I think it's about time to put them in the ground. I know you need to attenuate them to outside conditions, so I've been putting them out on our deck 4-6 hours a day for a week. Is this enough to get them ready to live outside? Also, they're a little less than a foot tall so I'm a bit concerned about them not being large enough to plant yet.
Re: Getting ready to transplant tomatoes
That should be good. You might leave them out for 24 hours once just to make sure they do ok.
Trim off the very bottom leaves of your tomatoes, plant them deeply, and where those leaves were will make strong roots. Water well. Add some compost, and keep them watered well for a good week.
They're definitely big enough, and they're probably hardened off enough.
Good luck!
