Anniversary Cake

I know everyone has not had their anniversary yet, so feel free to pipe in later if that's the case. H and I saved the top layer of our cake and tried it out today, and we were surprised that it was actually really good! I was just curious to see who else saved their cake and how it turned out.

Re: Anniversary Cake

  • Ours is currently defrosting and we are going to try it when H gets back from his work trip in San Francisco.  We figured we might as well try it since we saved it.

  • Our anniversary was yesterday.

We pulled it out of the freezer on Friday and kept it in the fridge until last night - it was still really good!!  It was strawberry cake with cream cheese filling.  It still had the layer of fondant on it from the wedding, which I think helped to keep it moist.

We're having SIL and her FI over tonight to have some because we don't want to throw it away or eat cake all week...

We also get a free anniversary cake from our cake lady but we don't pick up that one until next weekend (I told her we saved our topper from the wedding, so there was no rush - I didn't want two cakes around...)

  • We didn't save our cake because it was just in cake boxes and I didn't take the time to wrap it all that well.  We just threw them in the freezer and took it out in June and at a bunch of it then.  The place we had our reception also did our cake and next Friday I'm picking up a replica of our top tier.  They are charing us a bit for it, but I wanted it so I'm willing to cough up the $20 for it.  This time I might freeze some just to save for later.  Ours was just a white cake with butter cream frosting and a layer of butter cream too.  I can't wait to have some, it was so yummy.

  • Our cake better taste good, because the only bite I got was at the reception and I can't remember how it tasted.  Our anniversary is Sunday, so we'll prob take it out Thursday.  I'm scared it's gonna taste bad =X

  • Part of our topper is in the freezer and I'll take it out next week to thaw. If its not good that's ok, because my cake lady did my baby shower cake earlier this month :)

  • We didn't save ours, we ate it before we even went on our honeymoon.  I had planned on getting a mini cake from the same bakery, and still might... I just have to figure out the logistics since we are going away for our anniversary.

  • We had planned on saving ours, but it didn't quite turn out that way. My grandmother put it in her freezer along with my flowers and the BM flowers from the wedding in the fridge. She left and went out of town for a few days, when she got back she came home to a fridge that had stopped working. We lost the top of our cake along with all of the flowers. It is no big deal though, I don't eat cake and we may just have the lady that did it to make us a small mini cake for DH's sake on the anniversary.

  • We ate ours a couple weeks ago.  When I saw it I thought it was going to be awful, because they stuck it in a plastic cake dome and put saran wrap around it (one layer) and that was it.  It was suprisingly good (perhaps due to the low expectations).  It was a rum cake so all the rum sunk to the bottom layer and that part was very good!

  • We tried ours last night and it was actually pretty good.  H's fam is coming over soon so we'll have to have them help us finish it.

  • We haven't had our's yet, and DH is definitely leery about eating year-old cake! Our cake lady is giving us a free replica of our top tier so we'll have that as well in case the original one isn't very tasty :)
  • Ours was SO good.  I was so excited!!
